What's your favorite permit rod?

9 plus large arger for the 10 with hatch backing. do a midarbor spool for the 12. 11plus is ideally suited as a 12 wt tarpon reel

How many 8 weights are enough?

just curious how many of a particular line weight people have in their rod arsenal? say 8 weight saltwater rods? how and when do you go about wdding a rod to what you already have?

You will live the reel. My first hatch was a 4+ finatic. I now have a 3+, two 7+, and a 9+ on the way.

The nice thing is if you want more backing capacity you can get a midarbor spool as well...

Ill second the t&t solar. personally i did not like the 7 weight orvis h2. i have the 8 weight orvis h2 which felt like a completely different rod. the 7 weight just didnt feel the same.

I know you havent been a huge lamson fan but the speedster3.5 might fit the bill. i have the 2 and the narrower spool is nice. not in same ballpark strenght wise of the frame as the hatch. but mine...

I have both the 4 and the 5 wt. I would have to say for what you are looking for the 6 is a better rod. The five is a great dry fly rod. I have to agree that the 6 is a really sweet rod. ...

I am going to try the perception on my 8.5 4 wt. Will let you know how it casts/ and fishes next week. Shop where I purchased the rod recommended both with some guys in the shop preferring the gold...

Another sweet six to consider is the T&T solar. Have that rod and love it. Might be a bit too powerful for your applications but would be worth a look.
