Re: 6 weight rod feedback Scott Radian?

A 4/5 is probably spot on with a new half line size heavy 4wt line, right? If I counted my fingers correctly I think that's exactly a 4 1/2 weight rod.... Ok I'll stop now....

Re: Ross CLA or Lamson Konic/Guru?

I have both guru and konic. While I prefer my guru simply based on aesthetics the konic is a fine reel too. I'd jump for them over the Ross myself. Lamson is made in USA, boise Idaho to be exact....

Re: Hungarian partridge skins ?

I just bought a natural and an olive pelt from j stockard. Both grade 1. Happy with both, not a lot of the tiny feathers but most of my soft hackles are in 14's and 12's and there is plenty of that...

Re: Likes and dislikes

I can see both sides. I have no problem with catching lots of stocker trout but almost anyone can do that any time of the year close to home these days. If I am going to take a trip to one of the...

Re: Sinking Lines use weighted flies or not?

Also without hi jacking the thread and back to the original question. I thought oldnewguy's post on thermoclines in the Stillwater section was very interesting.

Re: Sinking Lines use weighted flies or not?

Use either depending on how deep your looking to get. I tie a lot of my flies in no weight, bead head, and bead head plus lead wrap depending in how deep I want to get. How long you wait letting your...

Re: What lines do you favor?

Hmm interesting, never thought of using a slip indicator. Only time I ever used a slip bobber was bait fishing for pike.

Do you use a weight or anything after the slip indicator to keep from...

What lines do you favor?

After reading oldnewguy's post on thermoclines here I was curious what most of you Stillwater guys are using for lines?

I myself 90 percent of the time find myself using my intermediate line and...

Re: Embracing The Future

Was trying to think of something to throw in that hasn't been added yet and I think besides the ease of travel the fact that I can purchase my out of states license online before I leave for a trip...

Re: Cabelas L tech review. Wow!

Sooo... Had my heart set on a new greys xf2 9' 6wt for throwing small streamers. I haven't picked up a greys I didn't love. But I have heard many people say the xf2 is very similar to the Zenith? And...

Re: I'm such a jerk...

Ok am I the only one that really digs the green cream line color contrast on that reel? You gotta have a trim color somewhere and I think it looks pretty bangin!

Re: 2 videos on Fly flyfishing in Basque Country

Happy to see some other basque folk on here! When I started fly fishing all the old basque guys I grew up with would just say " what you doing?!? You lose your worm before you hit water!"

I miss...

Yeah they are a little long but I couldn't help but watch more of his after that. I love his trout unlimited adds at the beginning of some of his videos.

Hey nvkevin! Happy to see another northern Nevada guy. I used to live in elko, now I'm over north of Winnemucca. My grandma used to live in lamoille so I know that creek well.

I believe Nevada...

Re: Needle Knot

One thing to consider is size of fish. I used to nail not all of my leaders directly on my line because I liked the way it went through the guides. On my first pike fishing trip in Montana I caught a...

Re: Articulated fly hook arrangments?

I have often thought about starting to tie tube flies but the additional couple bucks to get started has always just led me back to traditional flies. Maybe I will finally have to give that a go.

Re: Articulated fly hook arrangments?

Thanks Ard! I have been using braided line as well because I had some 80# braid laying around for pike leaders. That's a neat idea the way you used the old fly tube. Gonna have to add that trick to...

Articulated fly hook arrangments?

So I just started tying some double hook articulated flies because, well, basically I enjoy tying big colorful monsters.

Do any of you have any preference on hook setups for these? I mean start...

Re: Short rods for big flies?

For the leverage thing. I really really would like to play with one of the Beulah 11 foot surf rods. I think it might be great to two hand overcast some meaty streamers half way across my little...

Re: Short rods for big flies?

Huh, I never thought about the tournament rules part. That probably explains it.
