Re: AirFlo Super-Dri Elite

I am curious to hear some more opinions too. I read elsewhere the elite is true to weight while the xceed is 1/2 wt over. Getting ready for new lines on a four and five wt.

Re: Att Sweetandsalt

I have to respectively disagree with this comment. They are more common out here where I live and Kerry and his crew are at all of the spey claves with their rods in tow. They are very nicely...

Re: 9'/#5 Burkheimer, Method, Radian, Solar

I think this review just points out the need for everyone to try rods before they buy them and choose what is best for your fishing situations. I use 4wts for a local spring creek this time of the...

Re: Montana State University

Good for you! If you are getting ready to drop some $$ then I suggest waiting until you get there then talking to the locals. Fish a couple of times and visit the local shops and you will know what...

Re: Spey rod building

I agree with Fred, might want to consider some type of kit. That way you do not need to worry about components fitting together, etc. The Meiser kits are the top of the line.

Re: Leader tying

Ard hit it on the head. What is printed on the spool is seldom correct. Get a good micrometer and measure everything and write the actual diameter on the spool. I use maxima to build my leaders...

Re: Abel Hemostats

I am a sucker for Abel gear because it is bombproof and works exceptionally well, but I just cannot figure out how I would use these? They look like overkill for most trout, and I go with the pliers...

Re: Who designed the Winston WT and LT?

Wondered what happened. I was a big Winston fan and my 2pc 8'6" WT in a four is still one of my favorite rods. But I bought a BIIx on faith because I had never had a bad Winston, and ended up...

Re: Rod preference and when you started fishing.

It is a really dark case, maybe brown. I bought it in '93 or '94.

Re: Rod preference and when you started fishing.

8'6" in a five. A very easy rod to cast. I almost sold it a couple of years ago but could not do it in the end because it was my first true fly rod. I keep it for friends who want to try fly...

Re: Rod preference and when you started fishing.

Not sure if this supports you or not, but my first "fly rod" was an fly/spinning ugly stick combo if I recall correctly. That was 30 years ago. My first real fly rod was a graphite Orvis Rocky...

Re: What patterns drive you nuts?

Mallard wings on my steelhead patterns. Lady Caroline is one of my favorite patterns to use but they can take a while for me to tie because of those dang wings!

Re: The never ending vest hunt question !

I was like the OP, spending much time look for the perfect vest. I was using an old Patagonia mesh vest. Loved it but worn out. I sprung for the Filson Guide vest and love it. Other name brands...

Re: Ferrule Wax?

Never used anything for almost 20 years until I started buying two-handed rods built here in the PNW that fit very tight. Friend put me onto Graffitolin Ferrule Wax from Loon and it solved my...

Re: how do you secure you're wading staff

I have a folding one I use for trout during summer. I switch to a full length Sharpes staff I bought at the Red Shed during steelhead in the fall/winter. The tip is weighted so it sinks out of the...

Re: Speaking of wading staff, what kind is best?

Contact Poppy at the Red Shed. The Sharpes wading staff is exactly what you want. I use one during steelhead season and it is great for just what you are describing.

Re: Long & Mid Belly Lines, Am I Alone Here?

Re: best shooting line?

I have been using Monic this year. So far so good. Only problem is that my heads are about the same color, so welded an orange loop to the back end so I could see the junction between the head and...
