Re: Last Known Picture of Cousin Bill

Actually they have a really strong odor and the hair will be all over your stuff. If you must then I don't recommend the squeezing right in front of the tail on them :D

Re: First rod/reel buying tips and advice

Hi Omar

Welcome to the forum, if your buddies are fly fishers I would look to them first. In all likelihood one of them may have more than one rod and can give you a loner for your first trip. If...

Re: A Harley or a Fenwick?

I'm sure you'll enjoy the rod Mark. Aside from a couple Spey rods circa 2010 I fish almost entirely with vintage gear. When I want a glass experience my 2 rods date into the late 1960's and they work...

Re: The Chumkin Pumpkin

Great job carving that out buddy!

About Chum Salmon; I avoid them. I've caught them and although I won't argue that they can be stubborn to bring to net or shore I became bored with them long ago....

Re: Didn't get skunked!

Whether or not you caught a bunch of fish those are some real interesting streams and you obviously had a relaxing time of it. I go fishing and sometimes I don't catch anything but a limit of peace...

Re: Strike Indicators or Not

I can sum up my thoughts with a simple statement. I took up fly rod fishing and stuck with it for life. I did that in part because doing so required a certain level of commitment and focus that few...

Re: Thoughts on Criticizing “Grip and Grin” Photos

Not to start a discussion on fish anatomy but I believe he is talking about holding a fish by the caudal area or more specifically the bone that forms a sort of knob / wrist just ahead of the caudal...

Re: Thoughts on Criticizing “Grip and Grin” Photos

Hi Larry,

I take some pictures of fish but seldom with their being held for a good photo. The decision of whether or not to take a good photo is governed by several factors. First off, is the...

Re: Genetic hackle for streamers/saltwater flies.

There should always be an oddball in the replies and that's where I come in :)

I have always preferred the long feathers found along the bottom of an Indian Game Cock cape for streamer hackles....

Re: Best online fly shop

I'm late in this discussion and haven't read all replies but............ I have ordered a lot of tying supplies (mostly tubes and hooks) from The Caddis FLy Shop down in Oregon. No problems and a...

Re: Show Us Your Nets

It's a Mokai with a bunch of modifications. I got a couple of them for guiding lone fishermen on small creeks / low water where a riverboat can't go. They have a 7.3 HP Subaru 4 stroke motor that...

Re: Show Us Your Nets

I went with the carbon fiber Nomad guide net a couple seasons ago and liked it. It was however a little small for some of the fish so this season I upgraded to the Boat net size.

Re: Dry Flies on a Switch Rod?

If you use traditional over head casting you can fish dries with about any rod. The problem may arise when you look to roll cast or actually use a Spey style cast. Not many dries will hold up to roll...

Re: Broken Rods

I don't have an opinion on the warranty issue. That is in part due to the fact that the only rods I own new enough to be covered need to be repaired / replaced in another country. Almost every rod I...

Re: Great Lakes Salmon and Steelhead

If you are fishing in waters filled with salmon and steelhead with light tackle like that you won't be able to learn anything from me.

Re: Fly gear that should cost double or more?

I believe that the ability of the person using a rod and line trumps the price point for whatever rod is involved. The caveat being that the rod in question has at least an action that will propel a...

Re: Great Lakes Salmon and Steelhead

Hi,

For leader strength I use 15 pound for all species unless fishing grayling with small flies like a #4 or 6. You need to have a good drag or palming rim and control things right from the start....

Re: Need water proof camera help ?

I won't get too technical but it stands for exposure value. When you set it to a negative number / value, it makes the image a little darker in relation to how far into the negative side of the...
