Re: Orvis's New Nipper

Unlike our consumer shows, IFTD is industry only. Many products shown there are to inform retailers what they can expect down the road and place advance orders for. So the new Orvis Nipper and other...

Re: Echo 3 for streamers?

chuck, I am not certain but I suspect the difference between a 6 or 7 3 and 3S is the reel seat; all aluminum with small fighting butt on the S models. You might call Rajeff Sports and ask their...

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

Well, I suppose I posted about the new Orvis Nippers because...they were there at the IFTD Show and revealed on line. I do really appreciate the dichotomy between simple inexpensive gear proponents...

Re: Sage X sweeps IFTD 2016 rod categories

Rather than a mere wiggle, I like to ask the sales person to gently hold the tip top while I slowly flex the rod to see where and how it bends. This does not reveal how it will load or respond and...

Re: Looking for a new fishing ride. Anyone tried this one?

Nice rig and I like the color too. Bentley is a division of Volks Wagon so, if you want similar without the burled wood and opulent leather, with a more fuel efficient V6 instead of the W12; I...

Gary Loomis North Fork Composites EDGE 8 /#4

Attending the Somerset Show last January and volunteering for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, we shared a booth with Temple Fork Outfitters, a generous supporter of our work with veterans. TFO is...

Re: Abel SDS

I have checked and Abel is still in CA for the time being, I suppose these moves can not take place overnight. As far as SDS, it does represent some design changes relative to the trout sized SD's...

Re: Orvis warranty

While true that this is high season for rod repair, requesting a senior fly fishing service manager and explaining your story will get you accelerated action. Ask him/her for their name and direct...

Re: New Air rod from winston

Um, what did I say? I own three Winstons and my wife has one too. I have frequently written I want Winston to prosper and stay in Twin Bridges, employing Montanans. I was just there about two weeks...

Re: Scott "Flex"

I've read very positive comments from show goers at IFTD about Flex. I'd suspect it to be lighter and crisper than A4 which I imagine it replaces. Scott is on a roll.

Re: Echo 3 for streamers?

Whether you go with a #6 or 7...fly size and weight dependent, ECHO3(S) is great bang for the buck. Designed by Tim Rajeff, younger brother to the great Steve Rajeff of G.Loomis and the world...

Re: 2 questions about the Circa.

I own an original 8'9' LL and my pard has the same length Circa in #4 which I have fished on Silver Cr. Circa is a better rod in many ways then old LL, Superfines or WTs with more but subtle low end...

Re: Fly gear prices back in the old days.

Though material and fabrication technique have been improved in Orvis's old school "Superfines", their retail is unimpeded by needing to extensively R&D their largely long-existing tapers. They are a...

Re: 2 questions about the Circa.

Circa 8'9"/#4 along with Douglas 8'8"/#4 Upstream are about as fine as deep flexing rod design gets...with all due respect, considerably more sophisticated than 80's Winston's and better built. If...

Re: 2 questions about the Circa.

My sources are of the opinion that Circa is gone, not to be replaced with a new series. The more broadly appealing taper design of MOD, with the addition of new shorter models in its lineup will fill...

Re: Orvis's New Nipper

Um, aren't you all supposed to be off fishing somewhere instead of debating the relevance of high end nippers? I know what is going to happen; a few of the importers of Chinese made reels are going...

Re: G. Loomis Unveils Asquith Fly Rods with Shimano Technology

This is not mine, I have yet to see an Asquith, it is a press release image but we can see the rich green color of the blank here.

Sorry, the image would not open...but it is green.

Re: New (2017) Orvis Mirage USA made

Gerard know his reels and he is correct. Big difference though is Abel, Hatch, Nautilus and others have built a bulletproof reputation while Orvis has been all over the map (literally). So, new...

Re: Henry's Fork (Idaho)

My time on the RXR Ranch section of the Fork, which I dearly love, was a major disappointment to me this year. During the 4th of July time there were such sparse and scattered PMD emergences that on...
