Re: I suck!

I agree with cletus (I've never said that before in my life ;) ) - get a lesson. Youtube is great but you cannot do better than having someone right there watching a telling you what is right and...

Re: Montana Fisheries Letter

Thanks man, I really enjoy the annual fisheries report from our FWP. I'm one that thinks these guys and gals do a lot of really excellent work and don't get enough credit.

Re: New Spey --Salmon and Steelhead Fisherman

That is super cool that you got to meet all those guys and have Tim Rajeff help get you your first spey rod. So great.

And that reel is SWEET. Beautiful set-up.

I took my little Decho down to...

Re: Waiting a life time for a rod of a life time.

The best thing about the five year wait I can think of is that it would easy to save the cash for the rod. I'm not disparaging anyone with the money to buy $1000+ rods, I guarantee if I had the...

Re: Waiting a life time for a rod of a life time.

This is a good question, fun to ponder, and interesting to hear the responses.

Really only you can answer the question. If this is the end-all rod for you, then it'll probably worth the wait....

Re: Budget rod question: can I do better?

Yeah...take the reel offer! That 8wt reel on a 6'6" rod is going to feel pretty clunky.

Re: Airflo Kelly Galloup streamer float fly line

I've been chucking sinking poly leaders and streamers quite a bit this winter and have been thinking about a new 7wt line that is designed for the purpose. I just want something with fat head to turn...

Re: To do a complete strip and rebuild?

I did not think of nail polish...that's a good idea. I know a match is not going to happen, but if I could find something close that at least is a compliment I might be happier.

I should look...

Re: To do a complete strip and rebuild?

Unfortunately Rip, there are multiple spots, it's not just one scrape. Like I said, it was a pretty dumb moment. I did think of feather inlays, though I've never attempted it and frankly it's not my...

Re: HBD theboz

Dang John, wow! I'm glad to hear that you are recovering. Man, that is scary. A good friend of mine had a stroke a couple years, he was only 35, but had a solid recovery. You just never know. Get...

Re: To do a complete strip and rebuild?

After numerous test wraps with the myriad thread colors I have on hand I just didn't feel very good about any of it. The blank is a copper-brown in daylight and all I had that looked OK was...

Re: Furled leaders

There you have it, either Cutthroat Leaders or Fly Goddess, both members and highly recommended. Look them up.

I hope this is the last furled leader I see until next winter....

Re: Pfd

I have never considered wearing a PFD for wading. I don't even like wearing a fishing vest because of the bulk on my upper body, no way could enjoy myself trying to fish with flotation vest on. I...

Re: My Favorite Mayfly Dries

Really nice, Walter. I like these for large mayflies, I think it would work well for the big Green Drakes. Do you grease body or soft hackles to keep it up high or do you let it get wet and float...

Re: I get it...kinda, better!

Lake flyer: I actually like the reel, too. I was pleasantly surprised that it is not really loud clicker. I'm not much for expensive reels, I've used the same Orvis clicker Battenkill on my trout...

Re: I get it...kinda, better!

Larry, I bought a lightly used Echo DH 11'9" 4wt. It is a light trout spey all the way. The seller threw in a Pflueger 1593 1/2 (I think that's what it's called) as a line holder to get me started....

Re: Tying on a plane?

I agree...maybe not as scary as snakes on a plane, but close.

If you are to do it, can I recommend you do some spun deer hair flies? I love the image of someone cleaning deer hair and fluff...

Re: To do a complete strip and rebuild?

Yes, there is that, plus the trout fishing from now till run-off is best served with a heavier for for the Skwala hatch (which is imminent!) or streamers. It's the reason I felt OK with taking my...

Re: To do a complete strip and rebuild?

Well I got bored last Saturday and cut and striped the wraps off from my old rod! Last night I got most of the residual epoxy off. Next I'm going to tackle the grip with a channel lock pliers. I...

Yes! You've got the concept right! You could fish a basic a parachute in the proper size and color effectively for probably 90% of you needs. You may find that for specific hatches you want a...
