Re: 2013 5-Weight Shootout

I obviously work for a company that sells rods, and we weren't part of this shootout at all. But I was pretty taken aback by the comments toward Clutch and Mystic. Both companies are doing awesome...

Re: Allen's new "myth" flyrod any early reviews?

Dean,

We have made the Myth in a full line of sizes, but are getting ready to replace this series with a new, USA built series to be announced soon.

Re: Release of our new Kraken Fly Reel - Allen Fly Fishing

They both have their place. If this weren't a sealed drag, I'd go with a carbon disc 100% of the time. There are fantastic reels with both types of drags out there.

Re: Release of our new Kraken Fly Reel - Allen Fly Fishing

It does have a lower startup inertia, which was one of the deciding factors as well. As far as an exact reading on the stopping power, give me a few days to get my new office set up so I can pull up...

Re: Release of our new Kraken Fly Reel - Allen Fly Fishing

Both of us come from families who manufacture in the USA, so it's high on our priority list to get USA products in our lineup, and are doing so as we can. Next up will be some new rods we'll be...

Re: Release of our new Kraken Fly Reel - Allen Fly Fishing

Very much agreed! I think revisiting "old" is always a great way to do R&D. It's why we still have click pawl reels and fiberglass rods; they're just timeless. While we don't make either of those...

Re: Release of our new Kraken Fly Reel - Allen Fly Fishing

If anything, marketing would have steered us in the opposite direction. I truly honestly believe cork to be the best choice for this reel. The smoothness it achieves while offering more stopping...

Re: Release of our new Kraken Fly Reel - Allen Fly Fishing

Absolutely. It's actually quite easy to pull apart. This cork won't need that frequent of maintenance since it's not exposed to the elements, but a dab of neatsfoot oil once a season or so can only...

Re: Release of our new Kraken Fly Reel - Allen Fly Fishing

You would be correct, and that was an honest oversight on my part as I wrote the description on our store. This reel has a fully sealed cork drag. We tested out both cork and carbon disc in this...

Re: Allen rods - ferrells?

Thanks, Dennis. Nice to see you around these parts!

Figured I would chime in. Most have already mentioned and discussed the pros/cons of this type of ferrule. I personally prefer this type of...

Re: If fly-fishing was the sole factor in determining where to live . . .

i live in Washington state. As far as native fish populations and what's available, this state could rival anything else in the country. Sadly, the regions that are most integral to fish habitat...

Re: Its Offical. It has Arrived. Allen Olympic

I suggested the Scandi Short Versi-tip based on its versatility and newbie friendliness. A Skagit would also be a great choice, but there's more pieces to purchase (separate sink tips) and all that....

Thought some might enjoy this. This article just released today, it's a story about brewing for your own wedding, and I was the one (of two) interviewed to tell the story:

Re: Beverages of a Frothy Nature

Oh I gotcha. I do know Montana has a few strange laws on breweries having taprooms. They can't stay open past a certain hour, and can only serve a customer so many pints in a day. They must have...

Re: Beverages of a Frothy Nature

The term "micro" doesn't really mean anything in today's beer market. There is only "craft" and "industrial/macro." To put it in to perspective, Sam Adams/Boston Beer is a craft brewery. It takes...

Right there with ya. I love beer, and even a good whiskey. But I am not a fan of alcohol. Its effects on me are not positive or anything I willingly seek out. I enjoy it because they're tasty and...

Re: Beverages of a Frothy Nature

If they have any Rodenbach or Monk's Cafe, go for that. Those are quite common all over the states.
