Re: I like fishing in snow

It is mighty serene when the winds calm and the large flakes are softly coming down. The snow is definitely my friend as it keeps a lot of the "fair weather" steelheaders away. Pouring rain works...

Re: Winter Fly Swap!

That box of flies was one of my favorite Christmas presents! I received it Christmas Eve. I can't wait to get them in the rivers and lakes throughout the year. I already have a time and a place for...

Re: Your First Fly You Tied

Egg pattern on a size 8 hook. LOL it was huge! Now I can tie 14's no problem. I'm pretty sure that was my first attempt. As far as feathers and hackle go, I tied some real ugly wooly buggers. Some...

Re: To bead or not to bead...

LOL

Beads all the way but that's coming from a Steelheader. It's mighty dark down in the holes and I too think the extra sparkle helps attract em'. It's all preference, though. Really depends on...

Re: A Couple More;

Wow, I'm inspired. I've "mastered" the wooly bugger and egg pattern so not to jump up a bunch of notches I'll continue with my nymphs and once those are getting better I'm taking a leap into classic...

I'd keep those babies stuck on my hat! Very nice Hardyreels. I love the detail, especially that crossover "X" pattern on the laker.

Re: Peacock Herl Tip/Discovery

Hmmm...If I lose a fly after two fish I'll be more than happy to retie it! LOL
A lot of mine snag up and never get close to a fishs' mouth. Wire's a great idea and my nymphs are beadheaded so the...

Re: "You're Fishing In This Weather????"

Fishing is like football, game's on unless there's lightning! I too get some weird responses when I jump in the river in January or February and stand for hours in 30-something degree water. The one...

Hey McFly,
Those are real similar to my minnow and shiner patterns with the stuck on eyes and all. Mine are made out of Maribou and look just like yours when wet. Like I said before, they swim and...

Thanks BlueBird. Your nymph is going to be killer in the Spring or if I get to Chautauqua Creek in December for some Browns!

Re: Winter Fly Swap!

I've been meaning to ask...
What's the best way to ship these? If I mail a flybox full of my flies will the same box get shipped back to me or do I use little paper envelopes or tubes?
I'm not sure...

Re: Are steelhead weight shy?

If you want to avoid the shot you can tie (or buy) weighted or bead headed flies or egg patterns. You can also use fly sinkant that may help get it down. I've had more luck with my bead headed wooly...
