Re: Tell me a little about trout fishing where u are ?

I live, work, and play in Colorado. I call the 9'5wt. the Rock Mountain Standard, it's what works. Dries, nymphs, streamers, it'll do it all. Dunno how far I can cast- accuracy and touch are much...

Re: Small Wooly Bugger

This past summer, I cast many a #8 or 10 'bugger with my 8'3wt. No weight, mind you. Caught quite a few fish. It boggles my mind how deep you don't need to go when stripping streamers.

Re: Can anybody help me identify these flies?

I agree, the top (metal) box looks hand-tied, but I'll say the flies in the last (smooth foam) box look store bought to me. Nothing wrong with this, of course. All look like trout flies, for sure....

Re: What flavor was your Kool Aid?

I believe "drinking the Kool- Aid" is a reference to Jonestown. What's "killing" me is the sport/hobby/obsession/addiction itself. It grows, changes, ebbs and flows. I tell people I'm in control. I...

Re: Fly Fishing with Ard and Boss!

Ha! On top of everything else, Boss is a photobomber! Heck, reading this at work makes me miss my 'lil Sadie May, a whopping 34 mi. away.

Planning a trip to fish with Boss next year.:fishing:

Re: Cool weather trout fishing

For next week, leave the furled leaders at home. Let's say they don't excel at deep nymphing. Mind you, I'm a firm convert, have them on all my rods, and bought some for freinds. But for deep...

Re: New Rod help!

Here on the Front Range of Colorado, we get some rather stiff breezes as well. I've found the best defense against wind is a properly formed loop. Many times, I've backed off the power, and...

Re: New Construction method for nymphs

OK, I'll be the bad guy,

Based on the photos, I'll say too smooth, too shiny, and "lifeless".

But, let's face it, as has been proven many times: I'm not a fish! Would be interesting to fish...

Re: Cool weather trout fishing

Ponycarman,

Go ahead and tie up some Wullybuggers. Easy to tie, and arguably the most effective fly out there. I don't like to get crazy with flash, bells, and whistles; keep 'em simple and basic....

Catching large fish on small flies is all that, agreed.

Run a streamer thru there- those fish will rock yer world!

Either way, nice photos, congrats.

Re: Is tenkara replacing your western style fly fishing?

While we're on the subject,

What about in the cold? With no guides to ice up.....hmmmmmmmmmm.

Most of the small streams I end up in are too brushy for anything more than 7 or 8 foot rods,...

Re: Looking for recommendations on "Pants" waders and boots

To be honest,

A couple of years ago, I bought some Simms wet wading shoes for the hot summer months when I just don't need waders. Add a pair of thin pants from any number of manufacturers, they...

Re: Sometimes, we just eat

And why was fishing invented??????????

No harm in keeping 1 or 2 every now and again. Best if eaten as soon as possible (shore lunch!).

I'm not fond of fish, so C&R is no prob.
