Re: Help picking a new 6 wt

I don't know your definition of "independent" but if i were to buy a 6 wt right now it would be an Echo 3. i own one and it's great. i've thrown small dries and sink tips for stealhead with it.

Re: About Your Rod;

Would you mind providing some insight on your preference for 9' in a 7 wt, as opposed to a 10'? Or is that just how it worked out and not an intentional preference?

I know they are different rods, I've fished an XP, but not a VXP. This might be a dumb question, but all things being equal, which would you choose? Not from a technical point of view, perhaps but as...

Re: Seele

Thank you, gentlemen, for the replies.

I think what S&S and Mouch experienced were the original Sigature Series, which are advertised as full flex. The Tailwind, which is called fast action, I...

Perhaps this is just a public PM to S&S, but I'm curious to know if anyone has experience with these rods. i know S&S wrote a little about them from Somerset, but not a lot of detail about which rods...

Re: Newbie Going to Yellowstone needs advice

It was mentioned in a post, but I will isolate it here: there may not be much fishing in June given the enormous snowpack in the northern Rockies this year. July should be great though, not that such...

Re: Montana trout issues.

You can say that twice. He's a great guy. I've enjoyed many days on the river with him, and he really knows his stuff. His organization is one (it's a national TU affiliate, but a separate group)...

Re: Question: suggestions for affordable fly reels

The Battenkill is a good reel, but since you need two, I'd go even cheaper on the trout. I have Echo and they are good reels, you can get a Solo for $35 (the Ion is $80). Then spend more on the...

Re: Fly fishing near Fairfax, VA?

The park is good, and beautiful, but small stuff. Some great trout streams though. I don't know how far you want to drive, but about 40 minutes north of DC is Upper Patuxent state park. There's a...

Re: Magic river ?

This is a great mystery that I'm having fun trying to figure out. The problem is that its a small stream, and there are so many in that part of the world that its hard to pin down. At first, like...

Re: Loomis.....losing fans and market share?

That's funny, I had a similar experience. I had (and still do) a couple old Fenwick rods from my father, but when I first walked in a real fly shop it was all G. Loomis. Sage too, but loomis was the...

As you know I'll be there in early August. Only fished Alaska twice for short periods (there for work, not fishing). Don't plan on...

Re: Recommended 44 mag ammo

Yes, that's fair. At close range I suppose that's the case, but as you say, most guys would be wetting' the drawers at 15 ft (myself included)--I think Guns and Ammo made a similar point--and a mad...

Re: new rod

You already ordered so the question might be a little late! But yes, it's a good rod for the money. I bought one for my brother on the recommendation of a Trout Unlimited pro. Enjoy.

Re: Loomis NRX

Don't worry, Sweet&Salt, for good reason, counts for about a dozen NRX fans on this forum.

They seem to be known as a regional NW brand, more so than something like a Sage, maybe because they have...

Re: Going stir crazy!

I'm going to be in Delaware this weekend, but there won't be stripers for, what, another month or so?

But with temps in the 60s early next week there might be some trout fishing to be had.

Re: My Next Next Rod...PA Small Streams

Re: Ever been fishing when all Hail broke loose?

Your brother is the full-on-double-rainbow guy? Cool.

And yep...on the Bitterroot in a drift boat. Hail like that, snow, gusts to 40 knots, rain...hell of a day on the river. Wouldn't have...
