What is/is not working southern PB County

I live in southern Palm Beach county with access mostly to neighborhood ponds and canals (most with no connection to actual flowing waters). Let me ask if others in this area this time of year are...

Re: first time bass fishing...so fun

First of all let me ask fq13 where in south Florida you are located. I'm in Boca where I have attempted to learn fly fishing primarily in my backyard canal, local neighborhood retention ponds, and...

Re: Fly Line conditioner ?

Thanks guys. I had doubts when I first heard the idea of using Vaseline. Glad I had the foresight to come where a confident answer would be available.

Cheers.

Re: Fly Line conditioner ?

Not sure anyone is watching this thread; looks like no activity in quite some time. I have a question related to this topic; maybe someone can offer a comment or suggestion.

A friend recently...

Re: How to determine size of snake guides.Sage XP 890-4

Nice find Dean. That is precisely the data I was looking for. And you are correct that there are only 2 sizes on the tip section (3-1's and 2-2's). Now I know exactly what I need to order. Thanks...

Re: How to determine size of snake guides.Sage XP 890-4

Thanks William. I did exactly as you suggest, but have had no reply yet. Frankly, since this is a kit-built rod, I cannot be sure that it uses SAGE factory supplied snake guides. As I compare...

How to determine size of snake guides.Sage XP 890-4

My Kit-built Sage 890-4 XP graphite rod had a broken tip. Sage provided a new blank and left it up to me to strip the old snake guides and mount them on this new blank. I'm thinking ahead to when...

Re: sage vantage vs. sage Flight vs TFO BVK

I own two Sage Vantage 9' rods (4wt and 6wt), and have no other item to compare with. I'm relatively new to fly fishing, or should I say I've been at it for a few years but not with much actual...

Landing heavy catch on light rod???

Well, I learned a very expensive lesson in my backyard canal this week...with my beloved 6wt I snagged a 20+pound snapping turtle, and during the struggle to get him close enough to salvage my...

Re: Fly casting from my new kayak

I too had the urge to meld a 'yak with my fly fishing action, but after what seemed as close calls with gators (I'm in south Florida), I quickly listed and sold the boat on Craigs list and succumbed...

Re: Lessons learned: Do not practice casting in the backyard

Dave, just curious where you are. That picture reminds me of scenes in the Florida Keys.........or in the Bahamas. Is either of those a close guess?

Re: Lessons learned: Do not practice casting in the backyard

It's not clear to me why you say you ruined another fly line. If the damage is just at the end, cut off the frayed end, terminate the fly line in a loop, attach a leader, and go back to your...

Re: Lessons learned: Do not practice casting in the backyard

I thought I had a pretty good grasp on this subject, but I don't know what amnesia is (I thought it has something to do with one's memory, or lack thereof). I can say however, that I've done...

Re: I know I need a guide licensee but what else

I think it prudent for you to research requirements in your state as regards the USCG license. Here in Florida for example, any boat operator in freshwater who has paying customers (for fishing in...

Re: I was catching smallies... so I thought?

I just did a GOOGLE search: "large mouth bass" and found excellent pictures and written discriptions of that fish. See if you recognize your catch in that Google exercise.

Re: Trout fishing net kit

Hey Rip, thanks for the information. Sounds like the Fish Grip would be a reasonable approach for my surf catch..... after letting the surf help bring the fish to me. Also, the boat net could be my...

I know the topic here is about Trout nets; my question is a little off topic in that I am relatively new to fly fishing, and my primary catch is largemouth bass here in south Florida. I have...
