Re: Orvis Encounter

I have a good friends who uses the 9'6" six weight combo in the northeast. I asked the same question you did about how this combo compares to other setups on the market. From what he told me it is...

Re: Echo Boost saltwater

Unfortunately, I no longer live near Chicago, and I was hoping to solicit reviews and feedback from anglers on the forum.

Echo Boost saltwater

I'm interested if anyone has cast one of the light saltwater models (6,7&8). At about $250 it could offer another solid competitor at this point that competes with higher priced rods. How does this...

Airflo switch streamer vs rio switch chucker

I have a 10.5 foot redington cpx switch rod in a six weight. I like the shorter option of the 20 foot head on the airflo switch streamer versus the 25 foot head on the rio switch chucker. I also...

Re: Indiana Fly Fishing Expo: Jan. 10&11

Enjoy the show! I came down with a timely batch of bronchitis and fever. Some things are not meant to be!

Anyone cast the Scott Tidal versus S4S at the show?

Re: Favorite 7 weight & line

I have a redington cpx 10'6", six weight switch that I need to test out too; however I can't get off the kick of the 7 weight as a great all around warm water tool. I feel I'd be best suited for a...

Indiana Fly Fishing Expo: Jan. 10&11

I just found this link and wanted to put it out for all to see.

Favorite 7 weight & line

I always pushed off the idea of owning a 7 weight. Yes, an 8 weight is better in wind and a six has more finesse. I have avoided 5 weights in favor of a 6 and 4 weight for this very reason. I am...

Re: What is your choice drink for fly fishing?

Non-alcoholic favorites: water, mello yellow

Alcoholic: Yuengling (if out east), Spotted Cow (if in Wisconsin), Boulevard Wheat (near Iowa), New Castle (anywhere). Blanton's Bourbon or Black...

Re: 2015 Yellowstone Angler 5-Weight Shoot-Out

I still enjoy reading these shootouts. I get tired of the magazine articles that are not honest with reviews. Yellowstone Angler does the best job of any shootout I have read; however, the one line...

Re: The Shimano Beancounters Just Wrecked Loomis

I had an NRX on my dream wish list; however if this is true, I'll save my money and get a St Croix Legend Elite, Orvis Helios II, or (gulp) start buying foreign made rods like a TFO BVK where I could...

Re: Another 3wt to complement my Sage Zxl?

You already have a great dry fly rod with the zxl. If you like 3 weights, I would add a dedicated nymph rod in the 10 foot range. Greys streamflex and echo shadow II offer entry level price points,...

Re: Which Winston?

I have both the 9 foot, six weight and the 8 foot, four weight BIIX and love them both. I've moved to a switch rod as a more efficient way to cast large streamers and clunky nymph rigs. The two...

Re: You had $150 burning a hole in your pocket...

I'd add $10-20 and get the Echo carbon, 8 foot 4 weight. I think it's the best inexpensive rod out there for small stream trout and panfish.

Redington CPX 10'6" 6 weight switch rod

Anyone have experience casting this rod? Rio is recommending the 6 weight switch chucker, which I think it can handle, even though it's a little heavier than some of the grain recommendations. It...

Re: Echo 3 switch VS Scott L2H switch

I'd use the 6 weight switch for nymph rigs and large streamers for trout, smallmouth and possibly light steelhead use.

I'd also likely use Rio switch chucker line.

Echo 3 switch VS Scott L2H switch

These two rods are about the same price. Echo 3 marks the high end for Echo, while the L2H is a "mid-priced" rod for Scott. Any feedback on these? How is the build quality, how do they perform? ...

Re: 6wt or 7wt Streamer Rod for Northeast Trout?

If you're looking at the zenith, look even harder at the Helios 2. I was not a fan of the original Helios, but the six weight saltwater version of the Helios 2 with the fighting butt is a really...

Re: G.Loomis Pro 4X 5WT switch

Look at the 5 weight Rio switch chucker. It's supposed to be the best of both worlds for nymph and streamer fishing. How do you like the 5 weight pro4x switch? I was looking at that versus an echo...

Re: Helios 2 vs Loomis NRX

One other oddity with the Helios 2 is that the 7 weight weighs a quarter ounce more than the 8 weight. Any reasons why? I know it's not a typo.

I will have opportunities to fish the Cumberland tailwater in the near future. I have read nymphs work well and streamers can also be effective. If you could take 2 rods and 2 types of line to the...

Helios 2 vs Loomis NRX

It's been awhile since I've posted. I recently cast a rod that took me by surprise. I have been looking for the perfect combination of light weight and strength to use for streamer fishing and...
