Re: Bitterroot and the effect of too warm water on Cutthroat

Warm water is never a good thing, especially when a majority of the focus on Montana's fish restoration goes towards cutties and bulls. Temps on the Blackfoot are now getting warm enough to levels...

Re: Big Fish Spitting the Hook

Small barbless flies and BIG fish don't mix too well I've learned over the years much to my dismay. Those heavy fish can easily make that tiny hook come out after a few runs and hard pulls on the...

Re: Orvis Warranty/Turn Around Time?

Thanks everyone! I'd try to post a picture of the break but I've had terrible luck getting pictures to show up. I fear it was most likely a small crack that just finally broke. Guess back up rods...

Orvis Warranty/Turn Around Time?

Had a back up rod break on me this weekend (during mid cast of all times). Has this happened to anyone who could explain that to me? I'm stumped. Also, anyone know how quickly Orivs gets their rods...

Re: Who carries more than one rod while fishing?

The Old Man and I floated this last weekend, two guys (only one fishing at a time most of it--obviously) and we had 5 rods in the boat! And unfortunately actually had it come in handy as a rod broke...

Re: Going to the dogs?

If they are in the boat with you make sure you put your flies away back into the box instead of the classic pockets where spent flies go to die...they'll end up in paws/nose/mouth you name it. Lesson...

Re: Fly shops

Hey, if you're not a Bro then you can't throw ya know? Joking.....

The shop mentality is a great one to dive in to, that's for sure. I've been fortunate to spend a lot of time in many shops and on...

Re: I have NEVER...

With either the backing or the fly line you can punch a pen through the hole where there the "reel sticker" is. Then (and I think crocs work great for this) but find a way to have that pen held up by...

Re: Whatever happened to etiquette?

Yeah it certainly has become pretty bad as of late. For what it's worth whenever I feel surrounded I think of my time on the Bighorn watching guides radio back and forth in order to just play a...

Re: nice Bull Trout I landed this past weekend

Its safe to say I've got it as bad as someone who hasn't even caught one has!

Do you use your switch rod often since you have a spey rod? One of my hangups has been listening to John Hazel say...

Re: nice Bull Trout I landed this past weekend

There numbers are enough that you can find one at the end of your swing ;)

I just got back from AK and we spent a day fishing IN HOPE of some early steelhead moving up the river. Rained all day,...

I think Jerry would want you to use the heck out of it, and the wear and tear be darned.

Re: nice Bull Trout I landed this past weekend

The bull trout numbers from the flathead are a sliver of what they used to be in the good ol times of years past. Local regulations for the most part are catch and release and you can't target them...

Re: nice Bull Trout I landed this past weekend

Congrats on one heck of a fish!!

From what I thought Bull Trout were actually Dollys but land-locked, thus the other name besides "Land Locked Dolly Varden"

All names aside--well done Swimmy

Re: Every Where Else Is On Fire....

I can only stay positive through all this is having friends making money off the fires and making them buy the drinks (in late fall on their first day off in months )

Re: Rivalries

On a trip to Helena, MT on a college tour we fished the Missouri and I had a brown sip my dry, give three big jumps, two runs to the backing, and then settled in the middle of the river. After a few...

Every Where Else Is On Fire....

Fished the Missouri the other day with everyone else up by the dam. While dodging boats and row-backs I managed to dance around with a few fish on cripples and spent spinners. Nothing more satisfying...

Re: How are the water levels?

I think one of the reasons the north fork was closed (with the emphasis on protecting bull trout right ?) is that the north fork gets guided as well as a popular fishery. It's still low enough for...

Re: Vest or chest pack?

I have one of Simms first chest packs that I actually (awkwardly I might add) wear backwards. I had some bad luck with getting the line wrapped up on the pack while wading and a fish on the line or...
