Re: Waders for kids?

Great thread! My daughters have been using rubber hip waders up to this point Every time they get in the river I think they are going for a swim! The soles are slick and the waders are bulky.

I...

Re: Advice? Rust in a Fly Box

Yeah,

All my flies get stuck in a little fly stand made of wood and cork that sits on the dash of my truck as soon as I am finished. As soon as I get home, they get transferred to a similar one...

Re: Well, you guys sold me

The BOA's busted on the hill? That would really suck! Hopefully it wasn't right when you were cutting through a face of moguls or dropping into a giant cornice. I think I'd want my money back...

Re: Advice? Rust in a Fly Box

I second that! Should your box get wet, open it up as soon as you get home and leave it to dry. I assume you dry your fly line, reels & rods after a trip. Fly boxes should be no different.

Too...

Re: Well, you guys sold me

I have a pair of Korker's Redsides with the Omnitrax system. I love them. They do everything I want them to do without the price tag of my older pair of Simms. I have had to replace the laces once...

Re: A knock at your door and its a local Church Minister.

A lot of people are know for a lot things they would never be willing to admit on this forum. To be know for fishing is one thing. To be known as a person who is willing to take others fishing is...

Re: Korkers

All products are destined to have problems eventually. Nothing lasts forever. When the problem occurs within the early stages of the expected life cycle of the product, that when the product needs...

Re: Able Nipper update

I wonder when the last fly fishing product existed that had this kind of notoriety. Was there ever a $300 neoprene reel case? Or maybe a $400 rod sock?

I guess Maxima Ultragreen Tippet comes...

Re: Rod Wrapper

I'm on board with the dictionary and cardboard box idea. A rod maker could go into full production with a setup like that!

Low Cost Solutions = Low Overhead = Longevity

Watch out China!!! ;)

Not another Abel nipper thread... please?!? These things are like David Hasselhoff. I keep thinking their 15 minutes are over, then they pop up somewhere stronger than ever!

Re: When you need a new knot...tie a new knot

Plus, when you think about the cost of the little section of mono you're removing and the small amount of time (as compared with the day spent fishing) you're losing and you compare that with the...

Re: Leland fly reels.

I like the Leland Vintage series an awful lot. I've never fished with one, but the look is pretty impressive.

I say, for the price, you can't beat a Red Truck or a Tyne.

Re: Fly Fishing Hats

I'm sorry for your loss grtlksmarlin :( To lose anything that you've had for 35 years has got to be pretty tough.

The one thing I really can't commit to is a hat. I go between 3 different hats...

Re: Idaho High Country Trip with son, picture heavy.

Great trip report! I just drove thru (what I will call) a similar stretch in Idaho on my way back to Oregon from Montana. Old mining setups, small creeks slowly growing with time/distance and tall...

Re: SteelHead or Rainbow?

Steelhead usually are very bright (steel) colored in the ocean. I don't know if it's because of the salt water acclimation, their diet or just simply a chameleon-like defense mechanism. The more...

Re: Problem fishing a dropper

I'm with silver creek on this. OPEN loop! Way too much weight on a double dropper setup to try a standard cast. Gravity wins. This is the exact reason a roll cast works. A roll cast is nothing...

Re: Never under estimate the power of the copper john!

Nice catch! You can't beat a classic like that. You know a fly works when people make 1000 variations of it that all have success to one degree or another.

Re: Rods you regret buying...

$29 Martin 9' 5wt. from Sportsman's Warehouse. Got it as a starter rod for my daughter. It's pretty bad when $29 is too much for a rod. I ended up ditching the single handed route all together and...

Re: Able nipper, what kind of Zinger?

I don't know that I would be trusting Locktite... How about a solid 3/16" fillet weld. Just weld it straight to your chest. Maybe suture it on and allow the skin to eventually grow over it.

I've...

Re: First Trout on a nymph

j4son - Congratulations! Most of us prefer dries over nymphing, but the situation doesn't always allow it. You have to find the fish... that's part of the fun!

Re: Embracing The Future

I've got to throw my hat in there for YouTube. Not only for the instructional videos on casting & fly tying, but I love to watch other people fish rivers, creeks and oceans in states or countries...
