Re: What to look for?
On small streams just try some #14 royal wulff dries and go from there ;). I've caught trout on a lot of small streams on those even when attractor dries were not listed on the "local flies" or...

NFO Outlaw Escape pontoon/kick boat
Hey - I'm looking at getting one of these...possibly. I saw an old thread and it looks like some people on here like this boat. Any additional comments from owners?
I also had a question: Can...

Re: Nail knot for tippet?
I can't believe I'm doing this, but I agree with fichy on the "knowing how to tie the nail knot, or (even better) how to "uni knot" the leader butt to the fly line (which is called the "nailless nail...

Re: Nail knot for tippet?
It is for this reason that I don't care for nail knots -- mechanically they're...stupid :). A compromise, at best.
At least if you fold the fly line over into a loop and nail knot it, you have...

Re: Nail knot for tippet?
Doing a nail-to-nail splice to attach tippet to leader is a hassle....and I hate nail knots, period, for any purpose :). They're kind of like a butt joint in construction. And yes, I've used them...

Re: Making a sink tip with several old fly lines
This is a tangent question -- so basically the only purpose of a long front taper on the fly line is to essentially "slow down" and more gently turn over the fly right? (dissipate energy or...

Making a sink tip with several old fly lines
Hi -- I am curious about how to make an effective sink-tip line for a 5/6 weight rod. I realize I can purchase this kind of thing, but I'm interested in making one using some old lines I have.

Re: Bass taper fly line ?
Good advice already -- I was just going to add that I personally despise extreme weight-forward, bass-taper lines. They basically function like a shooting head -- in order to pick up line for a long...

Re: Wolly Buggers?
Love 'em.
But not the traditional bugger pattern. I've stopped using saddle hackle to palmer the body -- just too many bass and sunfish tear them up too quickly....even with wire ribs.
Now...

Re: Gartside's Soft Hackle Streamer ???
I hear you Rip, but honestly a clouser that sinks with too much weight at the tip is a jig right?....though I wouldn't say it's an "incorrect" clouser since the jigging might catch fish for people...

Re: Anyone trending upward in rod weight?
dpreller -- that seems to be the case, and I figured as much. That said, it looks like more and more people are moving from the general recommendation for a "textbook" fly rod of a 6-weight, now to...

Re: how light is too light?
Light rods create strong opinions in a lot of fly fishermen. My take is that anything below a 5 weight really has no purpose for "utility" since you can protect even 8x tippet on a moderate 5...

Anyone trending upward in rod weight?
Hi - I finally bought a decent 9', 8-weight fly rod and a nice orvis access reel to match with it. I also own a 3-weight, a 5-weight and a 6-weight.
After using it for bass/bluegill fishing...

Spinning rod guys don't suffer from their neurosis as far as I can tell. Is it to provide proof that you actually were able to hook and land a fish on a fly rod? ...
