Re: compact camera?

I've had a Pentax Optio WG-3GPS for the last year and it's been a great camera with a lot of nice features. I had an Optio W90 for about five years before that but I dropped it in deep murky water....

Re: A wintery Spring day on the VCNP

I was using my 8' 9", 3wt Circa so, yeah, there were angles I just didn't try to cast. Fortunately there's enough river that I could give up sections to keep the wind at my back :).

The bigger...

A wintery Spring day on the VCNP

I discovered that the Valles Caldera Nation Preserve has opened up weekend fishing for the East Fork of the Jemez. They haven't put this on their available dates web page, it's strictly walk-in and...

Re: Prescription sunglasses

My current pair and my previous pair are/were Rayban frames. They've been rugged, lightweight, and worked well.

I prefer gray tint on mine. I like a darker feel than amber gives me.

Be sure to...

Re: Rods as 'Works of Art'

I don't thinks it's strange at all. A local here keeps showing me the stuff he's doing with inlays in the grip and reel seat. It's gorgeous. I would love to have some of his work. But a rod is a tool...

Re: Pecos National Historical Park - Santa Fe

I fished the park Friday and had a very nice, if tough, day. I didn't catch many fish but the river looks good after the flooding, there's lots of clear gravel and cobble and I saw a couple of redds...

Re: Pecos National Historical Park - Santa Fe

The VCNP hasn't opened it's fishing program yet this year. The East Fork of the Jemez probably won't open up until late May because they are planning a prescribed burn across the Valle Grande (big...

Re: Pecos National Historical Park - Santa Fe

I'll drop a note here and let you know how it goes.. Right now the flows are just below 160 cfs. The park closes fishing at 200 cfs (half flood stage) so it looks like I'll sneak in under the wire...

Re: What is in you vest/pack?

If I dumped out my sling bag we'd find, including things hung on the exterior:

1 stack of tippet spools
5 leaders
1 nipper
1 hemostat
1 thermometer
1 analog compass
1 partial roll of toilet...

Re: Pecos National Historical Park - Santa Fe

So, here's what I know now after some digging ;). When Mr. Fogelson died the ranch was divided into two sections. The north section went to Mrs. Fogelson (Greer Garson) and the south section went to...

Re: Pecos National Historical Park - Santa Fe

Actually, the PNHP includes the Forked Lightning Ranch and it's the Pecos on that ranch that is made available. One of the reason I like fishing it is that the entire area reeks of history :).

Re: Sling Pack Recommendations

I've got the latest version of the Orvis Guide Sling and I love it. Great bag.

Re: Pecos National Historical Park - Santa Fe

I'm on the park this Friday and looking forward to it very much. The park was closed to fishing all last year because of flooding due to the Tres Lagunas Fire and I missed fishing that water.

Re: Predicting time of a hatch

A couple of additional thoughts:

My recent understanding of mayfly hatches has been altered in that the common wisdom I've heard and read over the years was that an overcast day triggers larger...

Re: New SAGE rod, opinions wanted

I think you made a good choice. I've been fishing my 590 One for almost four years now and I still love it. I started it out with Rio Grande and didn't like it and have been using Rio Gold since....

Re: Spawners

Imho, leave the active spawners alone. Avoid wading on the redds. Fishing the hole below a spawning bed is OK.

Re: My love affair has cooled

I loved it. Great rod. But I'm struggling to describe it and now I really want my SFT back so I can compare the two side-by-side and maybe figure out what is different :). For this trip I put a Ross...

Re: My love affair has cooled

On the question of the SFT versus the SFC, here's a little tidbit of info from a link in another post:

I have not touched one of the new SFC's, and I am no expert on casting so I have no...

Re: My love affair has cooled

I have a Butter Stick that I use on a specific set of willow congested creeks. I've researched the Superfine Glass but I don't think it gives me anything that I want that the BS doesn't.

Re: My love affair has cooled

To be clear, I *love* everything about this rod, even the colors, except that it just isn't durable for me. This rod casts well, can pitch a tiny dry as well as a size 8 Sculpzilla, and can handle...

My love affair has cooled

Well, I was fishing this weekend and I broke the tip on my Orvis Superfine Touch. I was climbing up a snowy bank, slipped, and apparently smacked the tip against something because, when I got to...

Re: Colorado in June question

What mcnerney said. I'll add that going high on the small streams works well too. I've spent a lot of time in Rocky Mountain National Park in mid-June. While the Big T above Olympus Dam and in...

Re: Sage One: very fussy going back in the tube

Agreed: the tube for the at Sage One is a pain. I whined to my buddy at the shop I bought it from and he gave me an empty, unused tube for a different model that is perfect. Hopefully Sage learns...

Re: New Mexico Fly Fishing

The greater Albuquerque metropolitan area is built along Rio Grande. I think the best fishing, in general, is in the diversions. I don't do much of that because I'm a trout guy and there's not a lot...

Re: New Mexico Fly Fishing

That book should work and access points are easy to find and well marked. The length of the upper river is a state park and it costs to park at the main lots ($5).

At around 10:30 AM find a...
