Re: Allen Heritage Fly Rod

My Allen Heritage 6wt arrived today. (One week service from order to arrival). Let me be clear, this is a first impression, not a review.
Today the winds are at 20-25 mph & gusting, short casting...

Re: Thought Rods

I've never considered the term "Thought Rod" before. But, I know that I have 2 rods that bring a smile to my face just to cast them. They do seem to do all the fishing -- while I watch the show.
A...

Re: Fly Reel under $100

When I'm asked about "inexpensive, quality reels" I first think of Allen flyfishing (Trout $140), and Echo (Depending on size $80).

Re: New rod for a older guy

I like the Hardy Ultralite (CC) Reels on my WT's (and a Tom Morgan gaphite). IMHO, they look good with the nickle silver, & balance well. Solid little reel and won't break the bank.
Enjoy!

Re: Jp Ross fly rods

His fit & finish is excellent. He's very serious and proud of his work (with reason). Give him a call, he loves to talk rods.

Re: Feather Craft Furled Leaders

Are you mistaking a furled leader with a braided leader? Braided leaders do have a spray.

Re: E-Bay fly lines

Have bought & fished several lines on ebay. A distressed box, last year's model, none of that bothers me. Angler's Roost lines are very servicable & inexpensive. Own one in 2 & 5 wt. (He says English...

Re: Equivalent to Sage Launch 8wt

Take a look at the Echo Solo 8wt. Might be a bit "faster" than the Launch series was (and less $). But, my memory has them very similar in castability. My wife is a "med-fast" kinda gal with her...

Re: TU Members

Life member since the rod "give away" was a Sage SP and the cost was around $700. Can't say that I've garnered any special treatment over yearly membership other than a few rods priced below retail...

Re: Travel 5 Weights

Personally, I'd look for a Redington Wayfarer. 5 pc. Discontinued but often on ebay. Or, trout unlimited gear reduction (donate tab) as an outfit. $175 Outstanding 5 pc, med fast rods. I own them in...

Re: Lake Michigan - Traverse City area

There are too many fishing oportunities to list in that portion of the state. I haven't been into Wilderness State Park in a number of years, but fished a small lake (canoe) just west of I75 for...

Re: 1st rod combo help

Another vote for Allen flyfishing gear. I use both the Trout and Alpha reels when I travel, have a 4 wt rod for "guests". Fantastic customer service.

Interestingly, while in a fly shop in the...

My wife just took delivery of her Allen ATS reel in pink. She loves it. Had to buy a peach line for it, of course. She thinks that the Allen will be "really cool"...

Re: okuma helios 89 fly reel

Personally, I'd go with the Helios over the Konic. I think that the Helios has a better "fit & finish". Also seems a sturdier built reel. (Own or have owned both). I am a fan of Waterworks Lamson...

Still own a pair of hip waders, can't remember the last time I used them.

Re: First Fly Rod?

IMHO you can't do better than the Redington Crosswater outfits for your first rig. You can pick one up in a 4 pc for about $140. Med fast, forgiving action. Basic reel, decent line. Replace the...

Allen's ATS is one I...

Re: need help

I agree with the earlier suggestion of a 5 wt., look at the 8'6". The Sage ZXL and the Scott G series would be a great place to start. Some very good prices on ZXL's right now....
