Re: First and last taste of new Greys management

Indeed.

I think I bought the very last production-run Far & Fine that Orvis ever sold. (They have probably rolled some custom builds since it was discontinued, though.) They sifted through their...

Re: Orvis C.F.O.

Orvis only lists the CFO I capacity as 75 yd of 20 lb Dacron backing with a WF1 line on their website, but they don't give the spec with DT1 or 12 lb backing. However, if you call their customer...

Re: 4 and 6 weight, or just a 5?

Who am I to talk, I have 8', 8 1/2', and 9' rods in each of 4, 5, and 6 weights.

But the question was whether to have only one or only two. There may be situations elsewhere where having the...

Re: 4 and 6 weight, or just a 5?

Well said. Although you might even want to drop down to 8' for the 4 weight, depending on where you are likely to be using it.

Re: First and last taste of new Greys management

And I would let them know that I'm aware Pure is a lot more than just Hardy and Greys and Fenwick and Pflueger. It's a division of the Jarden Corporation, which has dozens of other outdoor sports...

Re: First and last taste of new Greys management

I can see how that happens, but "we're out of stock in the factory and have to wait for the next production run" was not the reason given for the 100-day delay. It was "it has to be shipped all the...

Re: First and last taste of new Greys management

Fed Ex and their competitors all ship overnight from England. What were they going to ship it on, the Mayflower?

Re: PE backing - Anyone use it?

The GSP that Orvis recommends for big game reels (but that people criticize for being prone to binding in the reel and/or slicing fingers) and Hatch are both polyethylene. I have heard other people...

Re: PE backing - Anyone use it?

The only info I could find on dacron backing diameters was for SA backing, which is supposedly the smallest diameter dacron available. It's 0.018" for 20 lb and 0.024" for 30 lb.

Using the...

Re: help me pick my new rod

I should add that only a couple of years ago, the Zenith 8 1/2' 4 weight and 9' 5 weight held the #1 spots in the Yellowstone Angler 4 and 5 weight shootouts.

Re: Line in Fly Line

Even the right-sized braided loops can loosen and slip off. I had that happen to me once while playing a fish. Now I reinforce mine with a drop of Pliobond at the base (slip-on end) of the braided...

Re: Sage 4250 or Lamson Speedster 2?

Take the one with the narrower spool. A lot of large-arbor reel designs have spools that are too wide and shallow. A narrower, deeper spool makes it easier to distribute line evenly on the spool as...

Re: help me pick my new rod

I've never cast any of those in a 9' 4 wt, but I would say this: If you really want the Scott (or some other top-of-the-line rod) and can't afford it right now, don't spend much money for a...

No, don't poke the bear.

Re: What Price... Honor?

I doubt it would actually ever get to court. Unless there's something Jerry isn't telling us, their lawyer would probably advise them their case is a loser, their harassment of Jerry exposes them to...
