Re: Who still uses a vest?

I bought a pack and tried it for a day. Then returned it.

I use a $20 Pflueger vest and it's just fine. Eventually I'll get a fancy mesh one that's not so hot in the summer but I don't see the...

Re: Those clip-on magnifier things...

I gave up on 8x tippet and #24's. That's my solution.

Sorry that doesn't help, but my eyes have been bad since the 4th grade and they get worse every year. I'm not even 40 (but darn close) yet. At...

Re: Video History of the Adams Dry Fly

Wow! Watching him hand tie that fly was fascinating. And seeing the final knot was really cool.

I really want to try tying like that.

Re: Nobody here fishes unless it's summer?

As a western prime waters guy let me tell you that I've fought hard for some small trout and I appreciate every single fish I manage to get on the line. So please post any fish you'd like, big or...

Re: Stream rules: rant content... beware.

Wow my original rant really took off!!

I would like to add a follow up to what I posted last week.

Yesterday I went to 11 Mile Canyon and it was fairly crowded for a cold, windy, Friday in...

Re: Nobody here fishes unless it's summer?

I've been fishing on and off all winter long. Caught a few on midges and worms. Went out yesterday and caught three rainbows. There was even a mayfly hatch but it was too windy to tie on dries :(

Re: Books on Colorado trout streams

There's a tackle shop in Breck that has lot's of maps and a helpful staff. They marked on the map all the back spots, and out of the way places. I think if you go in there not acting like a newbe...

Stream rules: rant content... beware.

I'm sure all of you fine ladies and gentlemen on this forum know this rule, but here it is anyway.

If you see a car parked at the side of road, on a fairly quiet day, hardly any people, with...

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

You just made me say "ah ha!!"

That makes sense! I think I know how and when to fish this fly now.

Off to the vice to tie a few sizes and colors.

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

I will try that!!!

I've tied a few but I suppose I never knew when to use them. They can also be used as caddis emergers right? Or no?

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

Yeah, I didn't realize the rules were the fly had to be born in the state in question either.

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

Oh man... ok... yeah the RS2 was born here. But so was the Miracle Midge... Ok I'm cool with whatever. I just never catch fish on an RS2. Maybe you can introduce me to Rim Chung and he can show me...

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

Was the RS2 born in Colorado?

I wasn't aware!! Hmmm.... I may change my mind then... not sure though I still like the bead head prince nymph or the miracle midge.

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

I'm sorry, I forgot to put the "Prince" in my first post. I was tired.

The bead head prince nymph... that's what I meant.

The Miracle Midge is a pattern that works consistently, year round, on...

Re: Your State Fly Pattern

RS2 for Colorado? Why do you say that?

I've fished RS2's here and honestly I have more success on bead head nymphs and the miracle midge. I'd vote for one of those for our fine state.

Re: How do you nymph?

If you're ever in Colorado let me know.

There's a good video called Nymphing By The Numbers with Kelly Galloup that I learned a lot from. He breaks it down really well.

Re: Leader for going between Czech technique and other techniques

I use a tippet ring. You just get a tippet gauge and find where the tapered leader goes to 4x and snip it there. Then put on a tippet ring. Now you can add 4x, 5x, 6x... whatever, to the tippet ring...

Re: How do you nymph?

Too bad you're in California. The way I learned nymphing was a guy here on the forum met me at the river and showed me how it's done.

I'd have passed it forward if you lived in Colorado.

Re: Salmon Fly Season?

Great responses!!

Will I have to fight for a spot on the bank? Last summer I tried the pump house on a Wednesday and could barely find a piece of river bank.

Salmon Fly Season?

Hey all,

When's the best time and place to catch the salmon fly hatch? I've never fished it and I gotta give it a try.

Re: A day in the life of a Fly Fisherman

Well, if it makes you feel better...

1. It's far to cold, my local river and brooks are frozen.

It's actually nice here in Colorado and I went fishing yesterday... but...

2. My washing...
