Re: Wading jackets

Generally, when I fish I fish all day - not just a few hours. I also do not let rain deter me from fishing, especially if I'm on a week long vacation or traveled to fish steelhead. For me, I need a...

Re: Poudre

Leaving the lower canyon today I found not one but two fly rods in the middle of the road. I stopped to pick them up but they both were damaged pretty good. One was a TFO with a black Bauer reel. The...

Re: Greeley Colorado area

I fished the Big T two weekends ago. I did fine and saw plenty of fish. I thought long and hard about the St. Vrain. That is one nice looking piece of water. The numbers are the numbers but I did...

Re: nice brook trout

Dude - I swear I saw your truck parked on Thompson Canyon road on Sunday when I was changing to leave after fishing. I was admiring the wheels. Awesome truck. Great blog/pix too.

Re: South Boulder

I fished it today with limited success. Saw a PMD hatch late morning and a small caddis hatch early afternoon.

I started at the parking spot just downstream from the water works facility. I...

Re: Presenting a Dry Fly to Rising Trout

It's posts like this that make me realize that I know very little about flyfishing even after almost 15 years. And after all that time, if I don't know it, will I ever? Yes, flyfishing is a journey...

Re: Not a good read.

I've seen some of this fungus on the South Platte. I'm not sure if it's related or not but it does kill the fish and I thought the same thing about it looking like Salmon towards the end of their...

Re: Lamson Speedster for life?

Depends on what feels right to you in terms of weight and balance. I use an Abel Super 6N on my Sage ONE 690-4 and it's perfect for me. Ideal, actually.

Re: Abel's forthcoming Sealed Drag Reel

I can't count how many steelhead and salmon I've landed on Great Lake tribs fishing with Abel Reels. Too many to count. I've never. Ever. Had an issue with the cork drag not doing its job. Rain....

Re: Reel for G Loomis NRX 9' 9wt

I have a Hatch 7+ mid arbor on my NRX 9 weight. Awesome set up. I use the reel for an 8 weight switch too and with a switch Spey 8/9 line there is still plenty of room on it for me.

Re: Icey Mud flow..

Wow, that's too bad. I'm assuming the picture in the post is the stream and the video is what has happened to it. I can't imagine such a thing but the video sure is graphic.

Re: Expensive reel for a 3 wt rod?

Help me understand that logic, please. You don't "need" an expensive reel on a 3 weight. In fact, you don't "need" anything that is more expensive than the least expensive option on anything. You...

Re: On places like the South Platte, would you say...

I have a little bit of a different perspective. I appreciate the the crowding of people in the mountains is because we all want to enjoy the spectacular resources. When I fished 11 Mile Canyon a...

Re: Need advice on cold weather fly fishing gloves

I've yet to find a glove that I can tie knots with that are not fingerless. The foldover mitts are what I use when it is simply brutal or the wind is driving snow and cold rain - but they are a PITA...

Re: What's best for my z-axis 590?

I agree with you on the GPX. A beginner line is actually an apt description for me because as I've become a better caster I've come to really dislike it unless I'm throwing junk in close.

Re: What's best for my z-axis 590?

I've fished GPX on my Z-Axis rods for years. It is the first line I bought for my Z's when I first bought the rod and I'm now on my second line for my 4 weight. My point is I've been fishing with...

Re: Last minute help needed. going to Chicago for the weekend,,,, where to fish?

There is no trout fishing unless you want to drive into Wisconsin or Michigan. Your best best depending on what part of Chicago you're in is to target smallies in a couple different rivers - not my...

Re: Abel vs. Hatch Debate

I thought it important to update/correct myself on the above BOLD statement I made. Simply because I fished my Super 4N all weekend and didn't have to fiddle with the drag knob at all while fishing...

Re: Sage Sp ,Xp, or RPL+?

I look at this a bit differently than some others I suppose. To me, the dry fly rod is the SP and the XP is better for nymphing. I own and fish a 589-5 SP and it is not the rod I reach for when I'm...
