Re: DIY Bonefishing Belize

I'm not Dave, but I've had experience in the Placencia region. LOTS (lots) of good water down there, and fewer people. Out toward the barrier reef from Placencia is a myriad of small islands, and...

Re: YNP Visit

Yeah, you're hooked on YNP now. You'll find a bunch of us other guys/gals there when you return. Love that place.

Beautiful pics. Thanks for taking the time to share with us.

Re: Ye ha fishing is good .......according to science.

Bless you guys suffering with ptsd and depression. Glad you have found peace in fishing.

Flyfishing (especially) helps me with issues, as it likely helps everyone. There is something very...

Re: Browns on the move?

This kind of speculation (to loosen eggs) has no place in fisheries science. Can you name ANY animal that must thrash about to 'loosen eggs'. Loosen from what?? It's laughable.

Much more...

Re: Living outdoors

Thanks for the thread. Interesting.

I backpacked when I was young, so I'm used to tent camping. But last summer, while at Yellowstone, I decided that enough was enough with the tent.

Re: Another "I'm heading out to Yellowstone" thread?

Enjoy the trip. Wish I were there this week.

As said, according to the weather reports, IT'S COLD THERE ALREADY (low of 21 tonight!!!).

Thus, the fish will be biting. Probably won't help you,...

Re: Where is the best place on an elk to get hair?

Indeed, great forum.

My initial thought on 'where to get elk hair' was, "Off his dead azz" (e.g., region #4). :D

Re: Best Insect Repellent?

Whatever repellent or sunscreen you use, avoid touching your wet or dry flies after handling it.
Fish can taste, and they're quite discriminating. ;)

Re: Sea Trout and Interspecies cooperative hunting

Good point, Silver. That's the basic premise of evolution.

But certainly fish learn. You need only to watch your fish tank. When you approach, the fish rise to the top expecting food. And...

Re: Sea Trout and Interspecies cooperative hunting

Interesting, especially about morays flushing prey from refuges.

But it's hardly surprising. Many (MANY) species exhibit cooperative hunting. Once a feeding frenzy begins, multiple species join...

Re: Need advice on cold weather fly fishing gloves

I tried some Gator Gloves (think that was the name) from Home Depot. They are thin enough to allow fly-tying, dry fast, but are not wool. Some synthetic material. I tried to Google them for...

Re: Slough Creek trip report

Thanks much for the report. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I miss Slough Creek; been fishing YNP only during June lately.
But now I'm facing 10 months before I return to YNP, and it makes me a bit sad....

Re: If you only had 3 hours of fishing at YNP?

I made a trip with my wife and son about 10 years ago. My son and I got up early (daybreak) every morning and raced to Slough Creek or other sites near our cabin (Roosevelt area). Great fishing.

Re: Cracked and split fingers

VO5 works? Haven't seen commercials for that since the 1960s! :D

Thanks guys for the 'Corn Huskers Lotion' idea. I'm sure I can find that locally.

Flygrain, good points about the hard water. ...

Re: Cracked and split fingers

So, it's not just me.
This past June at Yellowstone my hands were so sore that I almost stopped enjoying catching trout - almost.
Thanks for the suggestions. Think I'll try the bag balm (can't see...

Cracked and split fingers

I've fished Yellowstone every summer lately, and (unlike anywhere else) after a week or so my fingers are cracked and split.

Maybe it's just the wet followed by dry air in YNP, but it's a...

Re: Never leave fish to find fish

Thanks for the thread.

When I was a child I fished with my great grandmother in a bayou of southern Mississippi. We used poles, fished with live shrimp, and caught bass and sunfish.

One of...

Re: YNP - Sight Seeing and Fishing

PLENTY of scenic locations in YNP that also fish well.
But keep in mind:

1. If you get dropped off to fish while she cruises the scenes, there is no cell-phone coverage in most of the park. ...

Re: Trip Report to YNP and Madison River

Beautiful pics. Thanks for the report.

Next year I've GOT to get to YNP during late summer. I fish there every year during June, but never can schedule August. Time for a change!

Thanks for sharing.

I fish the park during June each year, so I miss out on that region of YNP. Nice fish!

May I suggest that you type up a list of items to pack for each trip. Otherwise...

Re: Thief sole my fish and fly.

Thanks for sharing that. Funny.

I've lost Bonefish to Barracuda, but never had a problem in freshwater. Somewhere on this forum is a guy who's lost a trout to an otter.

Re: DIY Bonefishing Belize

You guys have fun.

Word of caution. The word "Joe" has a derogatory meaning in Belize.
Among Creole-speaking and Garifuna folks, it refers to a man who is having sex with a friend's wife. As...
