Building a 2wt is the way to go. You can do it for less than you will buy a factory built rod.
I've built a Pac bay 6'6" 2wt, and a Matrix 6'6" 2wt, both cost me less than $80.00 to build....

I have the model your inquiring about, it's a review rod for a 2wt shootout that will be published on Fly Fish Ohio in June. I can't divulge much till then, but I am highly impressed with the rod....

I don't think you will be disappointed with the Elkhorn, they have VERY nice rods for the money.

Mike has the new 7 and 7 rod which I'm sure you've seen on FFR, that should be a nice smallmouth rod. Mike actually has one up for sale there.
He also has a Junieta 7wt for sale there, I think...

This thread is out there. I don't fish for bass very often, but I do like to chase smallies in streams now and then. Attacking Sage like this is just not a nice thing to do.

I think short light line glass rods are great for small stream fishing. They load in close. Mojo mentioned South Fork Rods for a glass rod, that's a great place to look, as Dave's prices are really...
