Re: Echo 3 for streamers?

Have the Echo3 FW in 9', #6 for trout streamer work, has never failed me. There aren't many equals on the market for that purpose, regardless of price.

Also have the Echo3 SW in 9', #7 that I use...

Pricing of Premium Rods and Equipment - Yikes!!

Seeing some teasers from IFTD/ICAST show in Orlando. Several interesting new products... But, I am not confident that many of the new premium/pinnacle products are going to be relevant in today's...

Re: Streamer Rod

Echo3 (both Freshwater and Saltwater versions are money) in 9', #6. Can't think of a much better choice at any price.

Re: Scott Radian versus Sage ONE...

Agree that Sage and G. Loomis have always been market leaders and that they make excellent fly rods.

But, Scott isn't a "Johnny come lately" upstart. They have made quality sticks from the...

Re: Sage 690 One?

IMO, the 690 One is the pick of the litter in the ONE series.

However, I do agree that the tip recovers a little to quickly for it to be a "great" nymphing or streamer rod. I have found that if...

Re: Sage 2016

Haven't seen the new "X". But, if it is to replace the One, it is probably pretty darn good (or it better be...). This is actually pretty important to Sage, because the Circa, Method, and Mod...

Re: Pulse/recon/nexus/a4

YES, A4 not S4 (which has a TON of power, one of my favorite, fast sticks).

Re: line/reel suggestions for Scott F2

Old thread, but ....

Paired my F2 7'7", #4, 3pc. with Galvan Brookie and Cortland Sylk DT4F. Couldn't be happier. My new small stream, dry fly rod. What a delight!

Re: Pulse/recon/nexus/a4

Haven't touched a Recon. But, I have cast the other 3.

The Sage Pulse is the winner for me, IMO, best Sage all-arounder in years. Scott S4 is ok, but a little heavier and slower action than...

Re: Line for Scott Radian 6wt?

Rio Perception is the best fit for me, I also like the Rio Single Hand Spey Line a lot on this rod. I also use the S/A Mastery Trout (original, not new), MPX and AirFlo Exceed as well in certain...

Re: Scott Radian Ferrules

Aesthetics on many of the newer fly rods are surely a challenge to those with more traditional tastes. The Radian is a lot more traditional, than say the NRX with the Blue wraps or the Sage Method,...

Re: Sage One /Hardy Zenith

S&S and Bigfly are precisely right. The type of water you fish and the techniques you employ, drive your rod preferences and choices.

I also agree that you should get out of your "comfort zone"...

Re: Sage One /Hardy Zenith

You definitely need to know how to load a rod to make the Sage One perform. But, IMO, they aren't all that hard to cast, easy high line speed distance (I also don't think that the NRX is difficult...

Re: 8' 6" 4 wt. Question

I don't find the Sage One difficult to cast. If you can effectively load a fast(er) fly rod, by positively stopping the rod on both the back cast and forward cast and have a straight line casting...

Re: 8' 6" 4 wt. Question

S&S and I have had this discussion before, but it bears repeating.

The Sage One is a fine tool, but only the advanced to expert level caster/angler can extract it's performance. It is a...

Re: Streamer rod reviews

Favorite Streamer sticks:

G. Loomis CrossCurrent GLX - 9', #7
Scott S4s 9', #6 - Discontinued, but can find on closeout or evilbay reasonable.
Echo3 Saltwater - 9', #7 - GREAT streamer rod for...

Re: NRX 6wt Line Choice (sorry for another one of these)?

Good news is that S/A Mastery is now doing the modern Trout Taper (that they previously offered only in textured) in a smooth line. I have purchased a couple but haven't used them yet. I have high...

Re: A IMO Thought (Sage/Winston)

Was a Sage devotee all the way from the company's beginnings. As my first "real" graphite fly rods were the venerable Fenwick HMG's designed by Don Greene. So it was a natural transition to go from...

Re: Echo ION

1st Generation Ion, med to med-fast action, relatively heavy physical weight, but darn near indestructible.

"New" Ion II, much lighter, much faster action. Seems like a really great value, at...

Re: Radian #6 ?

Not East, here. But, here is my two cents...

But, I definitely use my 906 Radian as my all-arounder. In my quiver it fills the niche of the mythical do-all 9', #5, but much better. I have...

Re: 7wt Streamer Rod

I am usually a very strong proponent of USA built rods. Still am. But, one of the very best streamer sticks that I have thrown and use the most is an Echo 3 Saltwater - 9', #7. This is simply an...

Re: Radian #6 ?

I agree, the Rio Perception is the winner on my #6 Radian.

I also don't really care for the Airflo Super Dri Elite on this particular rod. I also like the Mastery Trout Taper, and the Rio Gold...

Re: Anyone on the 486/586 Radian ?

Have an 8'6", #5 Radian. I prefer it to the 9', #5. It is a little lighter in the hand (to be expected), and loads at shorter distances.

It is my "go to" for smaller freestones and pocket...

Re: Has anyone fished the Sage Pulse in either a 5 or 6 weight?

IMO, the Pulse is the "sleeper" hit in Sage's lineup of new rods. I own and fish the 590 and 586. The Pulse is the closest thing to a true all-around trout rod that I have fished from Sage. Will...
