Re: 9ft 4wts for tossing nymphs

I use a Sage Vantage 904 for Czech type nymphing. It's great for boulder strewn, pocket water type, freestone rivers.

I'm not a great caster and I don't enjoy using this rod with small dries (#18)...

Re: Allen ATS 2 w/ Jim Teeny CFR Fly Line & Backing

Cool that your GF will fish with you.

My GF used to fish with me. She lost interest after she became my wife.

Re: I need a small light weight multi tool.

Leatherman Squirt PS4 weights 2 oz. and it's small enough to attach to a zinger.

Re: Some California central coast surf fishing...

Good work!

I live 5 minutes from the ocean, yet I drive 6 hours to the mountains to fish for trout. Just can't seem to get the surf fishing things dialed in.:(

Re: A little past due, but my first trout on the fly

Fishing streamers requires technique. It was the last skill I tried to learn, and I find it to be the most challenging.

Re: I need a back-up rod. Or do I?

I think it's prudent to have a dimensionally close duplicate of your "centerpiece" or "go to" rod just in case.

I rarely go out with just one rod.

I'm also constantly trying to downsize my...

Re: cabelas CZN

11' light line rods are hard to come by. It's a specialized tool for a specialized technique. As much as I like Czech style nymphing, I get tired doing the same thing all day. Sometimes I find my 9'...

Re: balancing rod and reel

I wouldn't rely on it since a fly rod with a fighting butt will balance differently than a rod without. I'm gonna guess that your 8 wt does have a fighting butt, but the taper, materials, and...

Re: Midge size

I'd have to agree with this. I don't get to fish a lot of truly big water, but I know from enough failure that big flies and pressured waters just don't mix.

Only exception is streamers or...

Re: Used my 8-weight on trout streams this weekend

Re: what hooked you?

It was watching the take of a drifting dry fly and feeling the connection to the fighting fish. That was it.

Nice stick! I don't blame you.

With the recent release of glass from Orvis, Redington, and Echo, I'm definitely getting the itch to try glass. I know from first hand experience that Orvis is king...
