Re: LL Bean Rod and Reel

I'm not real familiar with any of LL Bean's current offerings, but in the past they outsourced a lot of their fly gear to top of the line companies like Hardy. Gary Lacey (Granger) was doing their...

Re: Best Rod/Reel Combo around $400-500

If you do a little searching on the auction site, you will be able to find pretty much what ever you want with that budget. Look at discontinued models or slightly used ones. You can pick up the...

Re: Will textured fly line hurt your guides?

I use a couple SA Textured lines, Trout Stalker in particular. Not near as aggressive texture.

Re: Shop/lodge positions

You are correct. The Cabela's Corporate HQ is in my town. As ridiculous as it might sound, landing a job there seems to be near impossible (trust me, I've been trying for months).

Re: Will textured fly line hurt your guides?

Dirty lines can certainly wear a groove into a reel. If it was a vintage reel, I would bet it was a silk line that did the damage.

Re: Will textured fly line hurt your guides?

Some say yes, some say no. The jury is still out on the debate if it is the texture of the line or dirt that gets stuck in them. I know that textured lines like Shark Skin hurt my fingers and ears...

Shop/lodge positions

This might not be the best place to put this, but here it goes. Mods feel free to do whatever if this is against the rules.

Does anybody know of any possible job openings in the fly fishing...

Re: Sight fishing top water Grass Carp

I have tried on numerous occasions to hook a grass carp. I can catch normal carp all day long but the almighty grass carp eludes me. There is a pond down the road from me that has tons of them in the...

Re: Took a Change and Grabbed a Sage 99 5wt

I have a friend that fishes the 99's almost exclusively...and he has the option to fish anything he pleases at any time. Safe to say that you got a heck of a deal on a sweet rod!

Re: You're gonna be jealous

Snowing like crazy here over in Sidney right now. I did get to enjoy a 60* day last weekend with a little carp fishing though. Not jealous at all of picking up dog turds!

Question Re: which brodin net

I would broaden your search into Nomad nets also. They are light as a feather, super strong, have a non slip grip, and cost about the same. I love mine and I know Ard really like his too. Wood nets...

Re: What's Your Preferred Method of Fishing?

Like Larry, I let the river tell me what to do. I'm not to proud to throw on a tiny nymph and some split shot if that's the only way to catch a fish. Sight fishing to carp has to be my absolute...

Get a hold of Larry (mcnerney), he will give you some solid info on Wyoming. The North Platte near the Casper area is usually phenomenal.

Re: Best way to straighten mono running line?

Lots of guys use Rio shooting lines, they are a hard mono (I think) and they don't coil near as bad. There is also the rio grip shooter, it has a coated handling section of about 15ft then...
