Sorry for the late reply. All of my martin 61's have two felt washers, then a metal washer, then a nut that sit on top of the spool. Nothing under it. Here's a picture in case that doesn't make...

Just load up with anything, mono, twine, a peice of cork, etc. then attatch your 50yrds of backing over that.

Walmart carries a nice wooden net by Cortland with a clear rubber bag for $20. The wood work is good but the finishing isn't. It's also got a thick coat of spar varnish that's sloppily applied.
