Re: a tip for fly casting

I use a black sharpie pen to mark the line, so I know how much line I need out of the tip. I have also heard of people putting a piece of string on the line wrapped very tight, so that they can feel...

Grand Bahama

I'm planning a trip to Grand Bahama in the near future. I'll most likely be staying in the Lucaya area. Has anyone ever fished the beaches there in the early mornings or late evenings with success?...

Re: Pflueger medalist?

Nothing wrong with that reel, I have one also. But, if you haven't already purchased one I would reccomend looking at the low end Ross reels. I have had several Ross reels for both salt and fresh...

Re: any fly fishing shows on tv?

My favorite is Flip Pallot's show. Used to be 'Walkers Cay Chronicles', but the new show is 'Fishing the Keys'. I think the season may be over now, though. I also like to watch 'Spanish Fly', but he...

Re: Rods for saltwater

I think an 8wt would be the mininum and a 9 wt would be a little better if there is any wind.

Re: Help with the double haul, please?

Both the authors mentioned are good, but I seem to learn quicker from a DVD and would recommend one of Lefty Kreh's tapes. I find him very easy to follow. The best way, though, would be to get some...

Re: Is it a concern before you go out ?

Unless the weather is just too bad to get on the water (high wind or thunderstorms), I'll go any time I get a chance. I prefer the mornings and often look at tides if saltwater fishing, but I'll fish...

Re: Analyzing Yourself

Using that criteria, I'm no where near being an advanced caster.:icon_neut

Re: Bahamas Bonefish

Getting around the island is pretty easy. I stayed on the other side of New Providence a few years ago and rode the city bus when I wanted to go into town. It cost like .50 to ride the bus. Don't...

Re: Analyzing Yourself

Very good points, Cliff. The thing that got me thinking about this was when I was looking at classes offered at the Federation of Fly Fishers conclave in Montana this year. Don't know if you're...

Re: Bahamas Bonefish

Not a whole lot of flats fishing for Bonefish around Paradise Island or Nassau. I heard recently, though, that there is one guy who will take you to the other side of New Providence Island and show...

Chico is a great saltwater fisherman and teacher. He has an article in one of the saltwater flyfishing magazines every month. He also has a book on fishing for Bonefish. I have both the other DVDs...

Re: is this a good setup for the price?

I agree, the TFO rods are great,I have several, but I don't think you'll get one for under $100 and then you'll have to find a reel, line etc. But, that would be a much better investment of your $.

Re: Inexpensive Reels Compared

I don't know what your budget is, but Orvis has their Rocky Mountain reels on sale. If you are looking for something with a better drag, look at the Tibor low end reels. Tibor is top of the line. I...

Re: Who's 8 to 10 wt should go to Alaska?

In that price range I would definately go with the TFO. I own 4 in weights 2-9 and enjoy all of them.

Re: is this a good setup for the price?

Looks like a great starter outfit. Comes with line and everything. Once you get into fly fishing you will probably want to upgrade, but this will do.

Analyzing Yourself

What would your definition of an advanced caster be? In comparison to an intermediate caster. If a person can double haul and cast 60-70 feet of line is he an advanced caster? Or would you be...

Re: Salt Water Rods?

You might want to cast a TFO Ticrx. Very nice rods and inexpensive, too.
