Re: Stike Indicator Help

Well, here's what I did. I use loop to loop connections for fly line and leaders so I can change leaders fast and easy. I have some white floating poly yarn for wings for fly tying so I took what...

Re: Stike Indicator Help

Thanks everyone for the advice. It seems that yarn is the most popular. I'm surprised no one seems to like the foam type that are slit and have a peg. On the yarn, It seems you could just fold over a...

Stike Indicator Help

I've usually just watched the line but so far I've used nymphs in pools. Now I'm thinking riffles and pockets so strike indicators are on the list. I bought a 1 1/4" Thingamabob that I hate casting....

Arkansas Access?

From Buena Vista to Salida (or even farther down), are there any public access points that don't require a long drive on rough roads? My vehicle just isn't up to it!

Re: How do you identify the bugs ?

I've read "Matching the Hatch" and boy, I admire a guy that can run up on the bank, tie a fly that exactly matches what's hatching, and go back and start catching trout when before- zippo.
But...

Re: Arkansas River

Well, as I said, I'll be in the Aspen area (Pan) and then the plan was to head back to Denver, drive by the old house, then back to Florida (where I now live) but....then I got thinking...Gee, maybe...

Arkansas River

I'm from out of state. I was going to head from Aspen to Denver and then south but got thinking maybe just go down the Arkansas. Question is, what areas along the Arkansas are the best trout waters?...

Re: Those clip-on magnifier things...

Well, still kicking around which way to go. Two issues, the small size and at sundown, poor light. Even with magnifiers, wondering if I'd still have a problem. That 20/20 magnetic tippet, might try...

Re: Those clip-on magnifier things...

That 20/20 magnetic tippet looks interesting. Does it work with size 18 and smaller flies? The threader box? I did a net search- just looks like a regular fly box. How does it work.
And, I admit...

Those clip-on magnifier things...

Okay, my eyes aren't what they were. It's getting dark, I'm using 8x and #24's and I CANNOT get the tippet into the eye of the hook.
Did I remember to clear out the glue, yep- checked before...

Re: Split shot or wrap around?

Thanks to all for the input. Calftail- does the stuff stay in place okay?
Another idea...I make knives as a hobby and use non-lead solder to solder the brass guards on to the blades. There are...

Re: Split shot or wrap around?

You have to understand I'm just thinking options. When I saw this photo of the "matchbook" lead, it was wound around the line at an angle- like putting mylar on a streamer fly hook, so that the lead...

Re: Split shot or wrap around?

Well, doesn't sound like many folks use the "matchbook" type lead. On the removal aspect- if you cramp the split shot on a tab of a bloodknot- you can pull it off and add a larger or smaller weight...

Split shot or wrap around?

This doesn't get discussed much but...I've always used split shot for nymph(s) but I was reading a book where a notable writer always uses the lead that looks like it is in a match book. It gets...

Re: Dream Stream Motel?

Well for a single guy the bunk house is more appropriate, I'll probably opt for that. Originally I was going to camp but putting up a tent, etc. all takes time in which I could be fishing.
A few...

Dream Stream Motel?

I'm planning my first trip to Colorado and want to spend a day on the dream stream (S. Platte) and maybe up around Deckers. I can drive back to Denver but I was wondering if there are any small...

Re: When do you like to fish poppers?

Trouter- I'm down in Florida so times will be different but I used to live up in Massachusetts, in fact for all our southern friends a lot of northern spots have very good bass fishing, not many 10...

Re: Ruedi-Frying Pan

Well from my "looking" on the net the middle and lower river are very scenic and that is worth a lot. I will plan at least a good portion of my time there and if I'm lucky the green drakes will be...

Re: Ruedi-Frying Pan

It does help- thanks a lot. On the two Mysis shrimp, is that an end shrimp and another on a dropper? Are the flies weighted or just nymph type hooks? How far apart do you set the two flies and what...

Ruedi-Frying Pan

Never fished the area but planning a trip. What would be best month (June,July, August) or does it make any difference? As I understand the first 4 miles below the dam has the best fishing and mysis...

Re: S. Platte from Denver Route

I want to thank everyone for the help. I have a much better idea now of what is what. That's a good idea to check the local fly shops just before coming out to see what flies are working, etc....

Re: S. Platte from Denver Route

CAB: thanks a lot for the information, just what I needed. If I had time and a truck I'd do it all but I'll have a small rental car and limited time so I have to make choices.
1.It sounds like...

Re: S. Platte from Denver Route

I need to do more research. I thought the Dream Stream was a 3 mile stretch between Spinney Reservoir and 11 mile Reservoir. When you say Dream Stream and 11 mile? What is 11 Mile- the actual 11...

S. Platte from Denver Route

I'm from out of the area and going to Denver and have one day to fish. I have read books and studied maps and I still am confused about how to access the S. Plate from Deckers to the Dream Stream. As...

I'm going back this summer. I'll spend a day on the "dream stream" but I also thought on an afternoon or two I might have an hour or so to spare right around Denver. What about Waterton Canyon? Any...
