D'oh, should have gone out this weekend for schoolies!

Well, there's always next weekend.

Any striper luck around Boston?

The schoolies should be here. I'm itching to break in my new Clearwater - first year trying to fly fish for striper and still trying to figure out where best to try my luck.

Re: Carp Numbers in MA

Haven't caught a carp on the fly, but yes, the Charles has some monsters. On the Cambridge side of the salt and pepper bridge closer to the science museum, they'll breach like whales starting around...

Re: Carp Numbers in MA

They definitely are, I've hooked into them.

The only other people I've seen fishing for them seemed to be inclined to keep them. I would not recommend eating a fish out of the Muddy. Pretty sure...

Re: New Shop in MA.

Neat! I'll probably go to Marlboro and will have to swing by his table.

Re: New Shop in MA.

Thanks for letting us know - I'll be sure to make it there at some point this year. There, AND the People's Pint ;)

Re: Winter salt water fishing?

Cool - I'll definitely be doing some exploring. Maybe not when it's as cold as it has gotten this week...

Re: Winter salt water fishing?

Thanks, appreciate the tips!

I ended up not going out but I wouldn't mind going to Woods Hole on a nicer day even if it only ended up being casting practice.

Winter salt water fishing?

Well we have the other winter fishing thread which seems mostly for freshwater, but I just got a new salt rig and it's going to be a shocking 60 degrees tomorrow and I wouldn't mind breaking it in.

Re: What is your choice drink for fly fishing?

Coffee and then water, mostly. Scotch at the end of the day.

If no driving is to be involved, though, I have a dark secret to share. Shady characters, usually millennials in unlit northeastern...

Re: Fly Fishing The Surf

I'm going to be putting a lot more time into this subject this year. Got a nice new rig and it's easier and closer to fish the surf than trout waters, though I do love it when I get the chance to do...

Re: Winter Fly Fishing MA

I know some folks planning to go early / mid January, already getting excited. So there's time for the flows to normalize!

Re: Winter Fly Fishing MA

How's the Deerfield in winter? Any recommendation on gear? I believe it's still open to fishing, correct?

Re: West Branch Ausable

Yeah I'd suggest calling Two Fly rather than emailing. I don't think they actually have internet at the shop anymore...

Re: Winter Fly Fishing MA

I'm with ya, this is the winter I crack down and teach myself how to tie. Been putting it off too long. I've not done much winter fishing so it'll be good to find something to fill the hole!

Re: West Branch Ausable

Said it before and I'll say it again, I'm a big proponent of the Two Fly Shop. I'd contact them for a guide and let them know what you're looking to do.

Re: Striper fishing 101

They ran pretty good near Plymouth this weekend. Caught a bunch of schoolies but we were in a boat a bit off shore. Not too far. Birds were going nuts all day.

Gurglers seemed to work well when...

Re: Southern Maine?

I'll actually be able to make it up before Oct 1! I would be going on the 29th and 30th, if I go. I'll be in the Wilmington NY area later in the week after that cutoff.

However, I also did not...

Southern Maine?

I'm going to be going to the Ausable late next week, but I have time to squeeze something else in as well for a couple of nights earlier on. Can anyone recommend a spot to get out in Southern Maine?...

Re: West Canada Creek

Does this area get swamped similar to Pulaski?

I'm debating where I want to go for an early October trip and it's either between AuSable, which I know and enjoy very much, or somewhere I've not...
