Re: Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

Re: Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

Got my Velocity and after all that....I think something is wrong with the drag. When I have the knob turned as far as it will go there is still a bit of drag....the reel doesn't spin drag free,...

Re: Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

I was discouraged from buying the Ion...(including, but not exclusively, itchmesir's comment about the gap between the spool and the reel) so I got the Velocity for 210. You guys are making me have...

Re: Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

No worries...I found one on closeout as well for 210. I took your advice and pulled the trigger. It was twice as much as I wanted to spend initially but with that discount...couldn't pass it up. It...

Re: Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

I'm thinking I'll only need a 100 yds. of backing...maybe 150 at the most. And I have both the Rio Scandi Short in 485 grains and the Airflo Skagit Compact for a 7 wt, 11 ft. switch rod. Do you...

Re: Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

Hey runningfish....I found some info. about the Access. I read that it isn't a good two-handed reel for the big skagit lines and enough backing. Have you had a different experience? I would think...

Re: Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

Yeah I've read a few negative comments about the Ion in my research....including the drag going kaput. Thanks. With the huge sales going on I may go for something out of my budget just to have...

Re: Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

Thanks for the input guys. I guess its hard to beat the Sage 1850 @ 75 bucks. I did look at the Orvis Mid Arbor Access running fish. In fact I'm keeping my eye on one on eBay. I was concerned it...

Echo Ion vs. Sage 1800 series

I'm trying to decide between these two reels for a budget switch rod/ reel setup...both I found for a great price. Anybody have experience with one or both and can offer an opinion? Thanks!

Thanks guys. I see 'em on the map but one never knows...

BTW...hows the fishing and the crowds on the Little Walker?

Hey Mikel...I was in your neck of the woods (use to be mine) last weekend. ...

Fishing/ camping 108/ 395 West Walker area

We're heading up the 108 next week (July 9th) and wondered if anybody knew of good places to fish near the junction. Like, how's the section of the West Walker between 108 and 395? I wonder if this...

Re: new Gear help

If you decide you like the Redington Pursuit and/ or Redington Classic Trout models (which get great reviews in their price range) you better act quickly. Cabela's is having a great sale. I just...

Re: Choosing my next rod

Thanks to all for the replies. I should add that my next rod will likely be the rod I let other people use when we go camping, etc., and they want to learn. I was leaning toward a 6wt so they could...

Choosing my next rod

So far I have a 5 wt and an 8 wt rod. I do mostly river and stream fishing, sometimes lakes too. I'm trying to decide between getting a 6 wt or a 4 wt as my next rod. Don't know if I even need...

Re: HURRY UP, ORVIS 50% sale on Battenkill Bar Stock Reels this weekend only

Thanks for the post! Great deal. I did what runningfish did...ordered the Orvis and I have an Allen on the way. But they're two different sizes so for the price I just had to pull the trigger.

Re: Ever have a reel freeze?

Really? I ordered a reel from them about FIVE weeks ago. No reel, no word. Now that's unheard of.

Re: Help matching line to rod

Thanks for the input. I've considered both. I know the RS4 is a somewhat fast stick from what I was told and have read, but not super fast. I'm just learning how to "feel" the difference. Thought...
