Re: 2016 5 WT Shootout

Very clever advertising. Be among the first to have a shootout posted on the web, causing 100's of posts across several forums because everyone's favorite rod is not rated the best. Bottom line is...

Re: Burkheimer Trout Rods

I have the 489-2 and 595-4. Not much to add, they are wonderful rods. I was using Gold on both but switched to Airflo super-dri this past year. I called the shop both times (and for several...

Re: Fly box organizing

Most of my fishing is for trout in spring creeks, lakes, streams and rivers in the northern Rocky Mountains where I live. A few years ago I took the Dave Hughes approach and loaded two boxes that go...

Re: Burkheimer 483-4 DAL - what line?

I have a 489-2 which is supposed to be similar to the 489-4 DAL. I have tried several lines on it and am now using the Airflo super-dri elite. Great match. Not sure if that will be true for your...

Re: Classic Orvis rods?

I received a rocky mountain 5 wt back in the very early 90's as a present and it was my main rod for a couple of years before moving into Sages, Winstons, etc. I will pull it out every few years or...

Re: G3 wader life span ?

I have had a pair of G3's about five years now. I hang them in the basement after each use or on the back of the trailer during summer. Maybe 30-50 days on the water each year. I had a leak in...

Re: Where Are Your Rods?

I hear you. I guess I found what my favorite rods and reels are when I had to choose which went in the safe and which ended up in the corner or in the reel bags.

Re: Where Are Your Rods?

That is why many of my rods / reels have moved to the safe. Especially when you start talking about two-handed rods and their associated reels. And it is more protection from fire than worry about...

Re: Where Are Your Rods?

My most "valuable" rods live in my gun safe. There is another group standing in the corner. A nice rod rack is in my plans, either that or buying another gun safe.

Re: Burkheimer 4wt DAL

PM sent on a link to a discussion on another forum. I have not cast the two rods you mention, but own a Burkheimer 489-2, which is close to the DAL. Wonderful rod. Not a "parking lot" rod for...

Re: Thomas & Thomas - new rods

I had a chance to cast two of the new rods in a four and a five at a recent clave. Not much to go on as I just had about 15 minutes with each using the demo line. The fast was fun, but the...

Re: Is Abel Losing Traction......

No kidding!

I asked where people are getting their data because my local fly shop goes through Abels like crazy, and you see them all of the time on rivers around here, most of them in black. I...

I suggest heading to the Yellowstone area. Mom and sister can rides horse through vendors in the Park or down in the Tetons, rafting in the Mammoth area, and you and dad can hire guides and fish to...

Re: Ocean on the brink of collapse

That is the problem with looking at the means, and not the variance. We can have more problems with obesity in the first world, but still have huge numbers of people starving in the third world.

Re: scratches on your reel

I try to take care of my gear but I also am there to fish. For me, my hat is a reel's best friend. When I go to set my reel down on shore I just take my hat off and put it in that. Stuff is going...

Re: Anyone else hate Rio Gold?

I also agree with S&S and ts47, try a different line. SA's are one, and I have found Airflo to work very well on several of my rods that are more medium-fast.
