Re: Redington Voyant or Torrent

I don't have any experience with the 2 listed but seem to have about every other Redington rod made, lol. I would suggest going with a 6wt over a 5. The 5 isn't going to give you that much of a...

Re: need help

I would add the new Redington Link to test out. Also St. Croix has some great offerings that won't break the bank either. The Imperial is one heck of a rod for the money.

Re: Speaking of the CT, I got another

Not exactly news as this has been the case for over a month but I couldn't agree more. Its a great time to buy a wonderful Redington Classic Trout. The rod that replaced it is the Tempt. My 8' 4wt...

Re: need help

If you have a 3wt I would go after a 5wt for pitching larger flies. A 4 isn't going to give you much horse power advantage over the 3 you already have. Some trout flies I have like larger bead head...

Re: Action and Lengths Best For Beginners.

I think easiest to cast is a medium-fast action. Slower actions seem to give beginners trouble with timing and fast actions seem to be hard for a newbie to control. The easiest rod I have a bunch...

Re: FLY REEL / Line ADVICE

For the money that reel is hard to beat. You can get it for 60 bucks or less if you look around.

If you wanted to step up a bit I know you can get a Lamson Konic 2 on sale right now for $85. ...

Re: beginner / intermediate fly rod & reel suggestions

You are looking at the right stuff. The 8 and 9 weight gear is what you want for reds. The $180 dollar Redington outfit is probably the Pursuit. They have another outfit up from that, the Voyant...

Re: Ultralight Fly Rodders out there?

As you already figured out, my go to rods for trout are a 3 or 4wt. I don't move up to a 5 or even a 6 until I hit big water.

2 excellent reels that won't break the bank:
Redington Rise II 9/10
The Waterworks Lamson Guru 4

Enjoy.

Re: Best 12wt Flyrod?

My experience with rods in double digit weights is extremely limited. I would consider a Redington Predator. I have an 8wt and it is a great rod. I have wanted to get a 12 to play with too...

Re: Just Curious: How Many Fly Rods Do you Own

7 rods total. So not THAT many compared to a lot of you.

1 - 3wt - 7'6"
1 - 4wt - 8'
1 - 5wt - 9'
1 - 6wt - 9'
3 - 8wt - 7'10", 9', 14'

I am pretty content with my little collection. I...

Re: Fly rod and reel suggestions?

A lot of people say a 5wt is a good all around rod but in reality a 6wt is probably more versatile. If I could have one rod and one only I think I might be able to make a 6wt do everything I...

Re: 3wt fly rod

I broke this rod out today for a bit of practice for an up coming trip. Verdict: Still an awesome setup. The Classic Trout with a Streamlite hanging off of it is stunning. Something about this...

Re: Fishing Vehicle

Yeah, it does alright. Dropped in a new engine over the winter. At a quarter million the original was knocking bad but still pulled fine. Also fixed a couple rust spots and sprayed some fresh...

Re: 3wt fly rod

One of my favorite rods is my Redington Classic Trout (now called the Redington Tempt) in 3wt 7'6" 4pc. I normally run it with a 2/3 Greys Streamlite reel with DT3F and it is a pleasure to cast. ...

Re: Looks like Redington has completely revamped their rod line-up.

Main thing they did was replace the CPX and the CT.

I picked up a 4wt 8' CT for $85 shipped and a 6wt 9' Sage Flight outfit (1800 reel) for $297 shipped.

Love closeouts....

I have been...

I am a pant wader guy. The stuff I fish I never need more than that. That said I recently picked up a pair of Redington Sonic Pro pants and they are great. I grabbed them for $170 to my door. I...

Re: If you could only have one fly rod?

It totally depends what he is looking to fish for first. I couldn't have just one rod.

My current selection is:
3wt 7'6"
5wt 9'
8wt 7'10"
8wt 9'

I could go to 2 rods keeping just my 9'...

You would probably have a panic attack if you saw my trout box. It is tiny and has plenty of singles. I have duplicates of my go to flies but no more than 3 of the same fly.

I fairly recently...
