Re: Trying to understand the UL craze.

The last 3 posts prove that eventually, good sense will find it's way into a thread, even on this forum.

Match the gear to the situation, folks. Fly, line, rod, hat, waders, which color of Abel...

Re: Clear small stream tips and advice

I stumbled across this thread too late to reply last night. Most of what I would have said has been.

My 2c re: fly selection: I don't like to get too specific, or too small. These aren't...

Re: Fishing Blown out water

Once again, SilverCreek is right. The fish won't be in their usual haunts. We trout fisherpersons are programmed to look in slow water, this is where the most junk will be. Trout are neat freaks,...

Re: Furled leaders and tippet rings... What am I missing here?

Not in my experience, no. When I wrote about this in my post, I meant a memory coil from being wrapped around the reel. In the tight creeks, these coils will hurt accuracy, and land your fly in the...

Re: Are you a Maximizer or a Satisficer?

SC, glad you took that in good humor.

I'll throw this out there: For stuff we care about, we are maximizers. For other stuff, we are satisficers. Which rod involves research, internet board...

Re: First trout flies

BWO or not, it looks very buggy. I think you have a winner there!

My favorite color for EHC dubbing is (drum roll, please) caddis green! Fish seem to like it best.

Actually, just for fun, try...

Re: Are you a Maximizer or a Satisficer?

I think I read the article differently than most of you. I saw nothing in there about price. Needing the latest-n-greatest, the best, or most expensive is obsessive, a different subject. You could...

Re: Chasing trout with my son....

Bless you, Sir.

My dad and I didn't fish, or do much of anything together growing up. We both wish we had.

Re: Wyoming Indian Summer and Overnight Fishing Trip

These posts from Larry never get old.

Folks who think dogs are annoying have no bidness camping, IMO.

Re: Furled leaders and tippet rings... What am I missing here?

Last year, I got a dry fly furled leader from Mike and da boyz at Cutthroat. I got it for my 8'3wt., which I use on small creeks and streams, almost exclusively dry flies. No long, exotic casts here,...

Re: Marijuana Could Wipe out Salmon…

I couldn't get past the part where somebody thinks an illegal operation needs to be regulated.

BigJim,

Satellite infra-red photos would show what you're writing about. Farmers use these to...

Re: Fly fishing Lindy Rig

A lure designed for walleye fishing. Mostly used for trolling. The spinner is key.

Re: 2nd Steelhead 8wt Rod Compliment/Backup

To perhaps expand on iatrouter's opinion, why not a shorter 8wt? That 10 footer may be the bees knees for steelhead in your area, but it may be a little long for other situations. The 9 footer is...

Re: Streamer junkies!

Just started working streamers this year, and I'm swingin' 'em more and more! Park the truck, work upstream with nymphs, dry/dropper, or some such. Work back down with streamers. Cast the fly to...

Re: Good Midge patterns?

Midges= thread wrapped around a hook. Got tired of paying $2-4 apiece, so I took a tying class. After tools, equipment, and materials, I don't know if I'm money ahead. Can't put a price in the fun...

Re: What further advances in rod design are possible?

OH, goodness, Thank You, Fred! That's about how far I can cast my new-to-me switchrod!

Re: Help!!! Facing a Crisis Alone!!!

IMO, the 905 is the .30-06 of flyrods. If there's one thing it should be, it's versatile. I only need one to fish with, and one as a spare for if (when!) something happens to the primary (favorite)....

Re: One Fly Challenge

grtlksmarlin,

Picking flies out of a bucket or hat, cool idea!

Re: South Platte Skunked!!!

Most folks will say: go smaller! Not always the case!

The trick to the DS is DEAD drift. Really helps if you're on the BOTTOM! A long indy nymph rig is your best bet.

Taking your time and...

Re: One Fly Challenge

If I'm not mistaken, NASCAR has gone to the "one car" concept. The cars are all the same, the teams then tune and tweak within limits.

I say: one pattern, one size, as many as you need. Chosen by...

Re: Winter Jacket & Gloves

I can be toasty, but the rod is still cold. Ice in the guides = no fun.

Up till then, the best coat and gloves are the ones YOU are comfy in. It's strictly a personal choice.
