If you're thinking the northern part of the state again, State Forest State Park is a really nice area too. Only been in the winter so not sure what crowds are like in summer, but it's a pretty good...

Let me know if you get out. If you're on FB, like their page, they're pretty active and usually have good reports. They also do monthly "fish-alongs" that include a bbq they arrange. Haven't made one...

According to the recent reports from RMA on the book of face, they opened up S Boulder Creek after a long period of severely reduced flows and it's been fishing very well.

I won't fish it weekends, especially this time of year. (4 hour drive homes just aren't fun). But if you can make it during the week, they stocked it somewhat recently and it's been fishing fantastic...

I think in the metro area the South Platte below chatfield is going to be your only option for trout fishing. Waterton is about frozen over too

Definitely check out Allen if you haven't already. As others have said, the Trout II is a great reel, and you could even get a Kraken for under your price range if they're running the Allen bucks...
