Re: RL winston Boron IIx...

I test-cast the rod this morning, impressed is a severe understatment... :D

There's so much feel in the blank and the components are probably the best I've seen, there's not a trace of filler in...

Re: RL winston Boron IIx...

Aye, I'm going to try that. The only problem is that our backyard is surrounded by trees and a 9ft hedgerow, so I'll have to be careful with snagging the line... :D

I still can't get over the...

Re: RL winston Boron IIx...

Well I got it, a 9ft #5 BIIx, the only problem is, my local waters are under ice...

Roll on spring! :D

Re: Why oh why...

I actually live about 30 miles from it however my sister's dentist is in Penrith so at the weekends my mom drops me off for a couple of hours. I tend to fish on the Bell Holme stretch (near Great...

Re: RL winston Boron IIx...

That's what I want to hear! :D

Yep, it's for christmas, more and more of my stillwater fishing is being done with natural patterns now so I use a 9ft #5 most of the time. :)

Re: RL winston Boron IIx...

Thanks for your input Pocono, the action of the Winston sounds like what I'm after. I need something that can be used at fairly short range without 'boucing' fish off, yet be able to deliver a decent...

Why oh why...

Are tourists so idiotic?

I should have been up on the River Eden this morning however heavy rain has rendered my favourite Grayling stretches almost unfishable. So I decided to wander off down to...

Re: what rods do our youth use

How to people rate the TFO pro series in terms of action? I can imagine that the build quality is reflected by the price. I wouldn't mind a 9ft #4 as a spare rod for my pack.

Re: Any other youth tie?

I've been doing it for a couple of years now, however it's only occasional when I need to concoct something new or to stock up my dry fly boxes.

Re: What is a good age to start kids?

I started fishing when I was five, however I only picked up a fly rod at the age of seven and under careful guideance of my uncle I managed to perfect my casting stroke over the years. In my opinion...

Re: Attention US Sport Fishermen

Don't worry folks, if I ever inherit a vast fortune I'll pay for you all to come fishing over here (providing that fishing still exists over here).

RL winston Boron IIx...

I've decided to ask this on here as I will hopefully be able to get an opinion from across the pond.

I've seen a couple of used RL winston Boron IIx's (9ft #5's) for sale on the net, I can't try...

New Hardy and Greys gear for 2010...

Not sure if anyone's interested, however Hardy and Greys are launching several new rod ranges in 2010, plus a new reel.

From Hardy the new Uniqua rod and reel series look to be a sure-fire...

Re: How many fish do you catch?

No I don't really, there's a tiny, 2 acre fishery about 2 miles from my home that is literally stuffed with pellet-fed rainbows. In my opinion it's damned boring...

Re: what rods do our youth use

Float tubin' and bugging for Grayling.

I really like the streamflex range, bar the 6ft 6" #3, which is horribly stiff for a small stream rod (then again I use the TXL for my jungle warfare). The...

Re: How many fish do you catch?

Normally one or two from stillwaters (per visit) on average, sometimes upto around 5-6, depending on the conditions and whether I'm concentrating or not.

As for rivers, the fishing can get a...

Re: 9' vs 10 foot rod

There's certainly nothing wrong with something along the lines of a 10ft #4-5 Sage or whatever, however try a heavier Greys platinum XD 10ft #8 and you'll know what I'm on about in terms of...

Re: airflo ridge

Quality control must be bad over here then, as every single airflo floating line I've had has failed, they've either coiled, sank or split down the middle.

Airflo floating lines are known over here as 'overpriced slinky springs'...
