Re: Pond fishing for stocked trout

Try a tandem fly setup. Use an elk hair caddis with a nymph dropper. Retrieve slowly. Watch the floating fly for any indication of a hit. Then set the hook.

I like to use flash back pheasant...

Re: Strike Indicators or Not

I use indicators most of the time. I look for the slight twitch that I might miss otherwise. As I age my eyes aren't what they use to be.

Re: My Trip To Yellowstone ***PICS***

Yellowstone is a fantastic place to visit. I was glad I got a chance to fish while I was there.

This cutty was so fat I couldn't get my hand around it....

Re: Lewis lake YNP 5/27

Those pictures are from May, 2012. We had a late blizzard that year. It was opening day and no way was I going to miss out on that. I was cold but loved it. I had waited a long time to get on...

Re: Lewis lake YNP 5/27

Man I miss that place.

I spent 3 months there working as a seasonal employee in the park. The only reason I took the job was to stay in the park.

I fished 24 times and caught 89 fish. Not the...

Re: My first fly fishing catch

Pan fish are a great way to learn how to properly set the hook. Observe the leader for the slightest twitch then set the hook.

Re: Bear Protection

I've carried bear spray when in Alaska & Wyoming. It will even fit on your wader belt. Be aware of what type of trigger guard it has so when you really need it you can operate it. Under pressure...

Re: Need Some Fishing Destinations in Alaska for my Summer Trip

Next year is a pink year. If your goal is to catch LOTS of fish then be on the Kenai in late August.

If you have a float tube you can hike back for grayling at Grayling lake, just outside of...

Re: What Keeps You From Going to Alaska to Fish?

I did the RV rental a few years ago. Had a great time but the fishing wasn't the best. Saw the most incredible scenery.

I did research and headed back the next year but later in the season. I...

Re: Need help with an August 2014 DIY trip.

Rent an RV. It serves as your transportation and hotel room. You can dry camp for free. Go into a campground every other night. Fill your water tanks or dump as needed. Cook your own food to...

Re: Motor Home Fishing in Alaska

This is a very economical way to see and fish Alaska. You don't have to go into a campground every night. I did this and used pullouts about half the time. Spent a night in the Russian river...

Re: Did someone trick the noob?

I have never heard of this trick. Did he mention what species of fish? With all the things I have read about fishing over the years this has never come up.

The more I think about this, the...

Lewis lake YNP 5/27

Too windy and crappy to fly fish. I tossed hardware and was rewarded with 5 fish, 3 brown trout and 2 lake trout. I was pretty cold, wet and miserable the entire time but managed to hang in there...

Re: Big Lm Bass ?

If you really, really want to catch that thing do this. Catch a small bluegill then with a spinning rod hook the bluegill just in front of the dorsal fin and suspend it under a bobber. Only do this...

Re: Bluegill Flies

My go-to panfish fly is a Madam X. Hands down this catches me the most and biggest fish. Something about the rubber legs I guess. Cast it out and let it sit a moment. Then give it a little tug. ...

I'm in the south part of the park. Does anybody know of a good place to fish where there the water won't be too high or murky? TIA

Re: Florida Blue Tilapia

Some small nymphs are rumored to catch tilapia. What is interesting about them is prior to the spawn you can see dozens of them in small lakes but once the spawn is over you don't even know they are...
