Re: Last night's work
Amazing work! I really appreciate the multiple perspectives on the olive trout fin. Very interesting to see it from different angles. Thanks for posting it.

Re: Rod for Colorado
I agree on the 4wt but if you're looking for a general trout rod, leaving the 6wt for streamers, bass ,etc, then I'd go longer than 8'. I have a 7'6" 4wt and 6'6" 2wt and fish them both but would...

Re: Furled Leaders
Yes I do. I coat the furled leader with floatant paste and switch between dries and nymphs with no problems. This means that the end of the furled leader is on the surface and I have enough tippet...

For the past 1+ I've been using Native sunglasses with brown lenses and found them to work very well. They came with some other lenses but I haven't felt the need to change from the brown. I got...

Re: Need help building a starter kit
Some of the starter kits are just tools and vise, no materials. I agree that you'd probably get materials you wouldn't use but that's not to say don't get a kit with tools and vise. What you want...

Re: Epic Rose 4wt.
Wow! Clean and classy. I wouldn't have thought of the pink silk but it is quite subtle. Beautiful grip and seat as well.

Re: Furled Leaders
I use them and love them. Easy to cast, turn over flies well, easy to change tippet sizes, and can last a season or longer.
Are you familiar with furled leaders and asking about the Cutthroats...

Thanks for posting that, its an interesting history. It looks like a bit south of Convict Lake (http://stevenojai.tripod.com/convictbc.htm) is a Lake Dorothy and also a Bright Dot Lake. Nothing...

Re: Redington CT 2wt and I fished today
I have a battenkill barstock on my 2wt and it's small, light and wasn't too expensive. If I was buying it today I'd look at the new version of the BBS, which is even easier on the wallet.

Re: So, Why Am I Not Fishing?
Ouch! It pains me to be working around the house while buddies are out fishing, but snow on the ground. That's hard to take. My mood coach is currently chilling in the fridge.

Re: The Sierra Bright Dot
Interesting. I've never fished in the Sierras. If it works well on the Yuba hopefully it's be useful down on tribs to the Owens River.

The Sierra Bright Dot
I've been tying up some flies for family taking a trip to fish some streams in the Eastern Sierras in June, so I did some poking around to figure out what flies might be helpful for them. While...

To pick up on what Jaybo wrote, yes, the constant (or more constant) year round temps from water deep in the reservoir, combine with all the food from it can make tailwaters artificially great...

Re: lifetime warranty rods / outfits?
I'm of the same mind-set. I've broken three rods. Once I tripped moving between spots and the tip caught in branches and snapped, another I was cleaning ice out of guides and should have put it on...
