Re: Loomis.....losing fans and market share?

I disagree with the premise of this thread. I personally have bought 3 Loomis rods in the last year, and given the good press that their NRX and NRX LP rods are getting, I think that Loomis'...

Re: Line for a Loomis NRX 9' 7 wt rod

I will use it in fresh water, throwing streamers into the Wyoming wind in search of larger trout in lakes and reservoirs. This will entail longer casts (i.e., longer than the length of the head of...

Line for a Loomis NRX 9' 7 wt rod

I just got a new 9' 7 wt Loomis NRX and I'm trying to figure out what kind of line it likes best. So far, I like the way it casts a true 7 wt double taper line. I think that my liking is due to the...

Re: How many fish will I loose when......

My understanding is that barbless hooks reduce catch rates by about 15%. As noted above, there is no difference in mortality rates for fish caught on barbed or barbless hooks.

This is an...

Re: Hardy Zenith or Loomis NRX?

I use a GPX (1/2 size heavy) on my Loomis and a true 4 weight on my NRX LP.

Re: Hardy Zenith or Loomis NRX?

I have both the Hardy Zenith and the Loomis NRX LP in a 9' 4wt configuration. They are both wonderful rods, but I use them for different purposes. The NRX is a wonderful rod with an action that...

Hardy Zenith 7 weight

I have seen lots of reviews and comments on the lighter Zeniths (e.g., the 4 and 5 weight rods), but I can't find much about the performance of the 7 weight rods. Can anyone comment on the 9' 7 wt or...

Re: Advice on a WF7F line

I used some of the advice that Silver offered, and came to a pretty good outcome, I think. I had an old DT7F line that was wearing out on one end and that was ready to be reversed. I cut 25 feet off...

Re: Hardy Viscount Disc LA

This reel arrived yesterday. It is a VERY solid piece of gear. So solid that it weighs over 6 ounces. I now understand why Hardy didn't make it for too long: there can't be a very large market...

Re: Advice on a WF7F line

Silver

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have cut a DT3F line in half for my 3 wt rods, and it works fine. Only rarely do I exceed the casting limits of the 45' line. However, in this case, I am...

Re: Advice on a WF7F line

The reel is a little bit on the heavy side, and probably would balance a 7 wt rod better than a 5 or 6 wt rod. Furthermore, I don't need a 5/6 weight reel, but I do need another 7 wt reel.

Advice on a WF7F line

I have just purchased a new reel that is rated for a 5 or 6 weight line, but I'm going to try to squeeze a 7 weight on it. I plan to cut off part (30-35 feet) of the running line to help fit it onto...

Yes, and now I'm just waiting on delivery. I'm eager to see how much it weighs and what rod it balances up with.

This surprises me. I have always thought that Orvis reels were rather crude, and I imagined that the acquisition of Ross might lead to an improvement in the sophistication and performance of the...

Stenzel Reels

I just picked up a Stenzel Regent 2 fly reel on eBay. It is German-made and looks like a nice piece of gear, but that's about all I can find out about it.

Does anyone know anything about this...

Re: Ferrule Wax?

In the past I've just used an old candle, and that seemed to work well. More recently I've been using a wax that St Croix sells for waxing ferrules. That also works well.
