Re: Tips for swinging wet flies?

There are lots of different set ups. I know some avid fishermen who just tie a piece of 4 lb test on for the leader and tipit. Others use furled or braided leaders. I usually use a tapered leader...

Re: What have you been tying today?

Might want to try a finer better quality thread. A good strong fine thread makes everything better, including getting improved purchase on the calf tail and hook shank.

Re: New fishing knive I made.

Ha haa, thanks I think. I have always tried to avoid the main stream (pardon the pun). Like fly tying, knife making along with wood working are other passions of mine. :)

Re: Fly tying room?

Ha haa :) What? You don't like my country style hard wood chair.? :) Surprisingly enough it is a rather comfortable chair.

No way on replacing it with synthetic ergonomics. I am a huge wood...

Re: How to choose a fly reel and line for small trout streams?

I am using a 4wt. St. Croix Imperial 7'6" with a 3 wt Presentation line for streams and small rivers. I love it. I paired it with the LL Bean Large Arbor reel. Just needed the drag yesterday on a...

Re: Nice calm overcast morning of fishing..

We got a pile of rain yesterday and last night. But it was steady rain and this spot has lots of woods round it so the water was pretty well filtered; a little cloudy but not too bad.

Re: Seeking help with decisions for a fly fishing newbie

I like the idea of going to the local fly shops. See whats going on and get involved. Best way to learn about fly fishing is do what fly fishers do. When the student is ready the teacher will...

Re: Targeting "Brookies"

In streams and small rivers, I look for deep water, then slow moving deep water. There always seems to be a big overhanging tree with many deep pools. Look for those well protected deep holes.

Re: Old songs rattling around inside your head?

Oddly, listening to one's favorite music (preferably mellow or easy listening) while driving actually has been shown to reduce road rage. :D

Mellow Music May Help Stave Off Road Rage...

Re: What weight fly rod

There was a nice Sage RPL on this site recently. I thought it was a 6 wt 9 foot. Think was asking 250 with a line thrown in. Nice classic rod ahead of its time. That would be a nice rod.
