Re: Swift River Massachusetts
I concur!
The Swift can be frustrating and it can be awesome. I guess that's fishing.
I just wish it was closer to me.

10 Days in Play del Carmen
Ok guys and gals, I'll be in Playa del Carmen for 10 days June 15 - 25 this summer and I wondered if anyone had any advice for fishing the beaches. I'm definitely getting a guide and heading down to...

Re: Favorite gill flies?
The Briminator didn't get it's name for nothing. Plus, it's easy and cheap to tie. It's literally a one feather fly (with thread and bead-chain eyes and a hook).
I've had the best success with...

Re: Wolly Buggers?
I have the most success fishing buggers in warmwater situations, but many trout fishermen swear by them. Fishing brown and black buggers for bass finally broke me of my topwater habit when fishing...

Re: 2013 Swap #3 : Clouser Style Flys
See now, this is the best part of participating in fly swaps--knowing other folks are fishing your flies. Sorry you didn't land him, baseman, but glad you gathered some intel!
PS: I think pretty...

Re: how light is too light?
If you already have a 4wt and room for casting, then I'd suggest a 7 - 8 foot graphite 2wt. You'll love fishing it.

Re: Resources for MA?
I live a couple blocks from Jamaica Pond, and it is indeed tough to fly fish there. I really only manage it early in the morning or right after a summer rainstorm. Too many joggers and such to safely...

Re: Secret flies
I'm currently reading Bob Wyatt's book, What Trout Want, which is pretty much the antithesis to the secret fly theory, generally speaking.
So, I'm now leaning towards not believing that my secret...

Re: how light is too light?
My understanding is that TFO's "half weight" rod is best suited to a 2wt line.
If I were fishing for bream around Jackson, I'd probably look for a long graphite 2 or 3wt, but that's because I'd...

I don't have any experience with topflite reels, but I can recommend the LL Bean Pocket Water reel for your 5wt. It's a little loud for my taste, but performs very well and has an...

If you are using flourocarbon, then you have no worries,
If you are using mono, then get rid of it when it stops working well.
That's my best advice. For those that test their knots, this...

I understand your initial point, but any rod over $500 is high end to me. I used the term "high-ish end" in a previous post.
Regarding your second point, it's not just about how many custom rods...

All I hear these days is that current ferrule technology makes the difference between 4 piece rods and 2 piece rods non-existent. Why is there a difference between 2 piece...

Re: Relationship Advice
My advice is to buy her casting lessons, too, whatever reel she gets. Or let her learn to cast on her own.
Just don't try to teach her to cast yourself. Let somebody else deal with it.
