I don't tie, but I have some buggers (without beadhead) tied on size 12 and 14 hooks that work fine with a 3 wt rod.. Even with a beadhead, if you adjust your casting style a little, they should do...

Here's something you can try that works for me....

Start with about 10' of line beyond the tip (minus leader). Turn a bit sideways so you can watch the line and then start false casting...
