Re: question on a rod weight fellas

I've caught 18" feisty rainbows with my Sage 3 wt. It's a ton of fun but I damn near killed that last trout bringing him to net. I had to revive him for a good 5" and he was still stunned as I sat...

Re: Does made in USA matter?

As a young professional starting a family and buying my first house, I bought what I could afford. That was a Cortland rod and Ross reel. Work and family became my priority and fishing took a back...

Thumbs up Re: William Joseph Stripping Basket Modifcation

That's a great idea. I for one love having my "Liam Jose" wading basket and it is so versatile as a basket, a wading belt, and has loops to attach my wading staff and my net leashs to. A few years...

Re: Best 5wt for $150?

"The Best" would be very subjective to many folks. My subjective suggestion would be the Albright A5NS at $150 that's actually made in Korea. I'm on a quest to find the best 5wt for myself as well...

Re: Abel Hemostats

I hope that after you clip or pin those zingers, you clamp those pricey pliers tips to your vest for extra security. This way those unobtanium clamps are secured two ways. We got too many gadgets but...

Re: Drying Boots ?

I got the PEETs as a present and I use them for all my shoes and boots-ski, wading, hunting, and even hiking boots that are wet. The boots are dry by morning.

Re: Lamson Velocity Reels

I have 2 for 3-4 wt and 5-6wt. They are excellent reels but mine were pre-alox. They have some marks but fish very well and handled some screaming trout runs into my backing several times on bigger...

Cool Re: I can see clearly now the rain is gone...

It's a state of mind for me working and living in SW Mississippi, on the blues trail for this high country drifter. I believe there was an older ski resort in Colorado named Purgatory. In the...

Smile I can see clearly now the rain is gone...

I can see all obstacles in my way...
Gents, after nearly 10 years in Purgatory, I've finally been offered a position in Grand Junction, CO. I'm ready to leave the south, it's heat, it's muddy water...

Thumbs up Re: Black Canyon of the Gunnison

Yikes, that looks pretty much what the other routes looked like. I saved some money skipping my annual stress test for this. Unfortunately my hiking boots both blew out their soles, I had to hike...

Re: How do you carry.......?

Only in those states with big omnivorous animals! Yellowstone for example. My first visit to fish greeted me with 3 Grizz in one day! Granted they were 50-100 yards away but how was:icon_sad: I...

Re: 3 wt advice

I have an older Sage SLT 3wt/ 7.5' for those streams yet it's capable of casting to 50 feet. Frankly I've been mulling adding a Winston BIIIX, ZXL in a 4 or 5wt but for the money, I've really...

Re: Abel Hemostats

If they're well made you'll never have to replace them. We use those gold, carbide tipped needle drivers day in and out for years until we've worn out the carbide from thousands of needles or...

Re: RMNP fishing

I just love this park and though it's got big fish it humbles one quite often. I got some nice browns on the Big Thompson and I would have wandered further in for some of those greenback cutts but...

Re: Which New Wading Boot?

I should chime in about my second pair of LL Beans Aquastealth Grey Ghosts. I guess what I like is the versatility of hiking into a canyon with them dry, wading then putting a gortex or similar...

Re: Stripping Basket Idea;

I've a dedicated one for the salt where it's needed-BVKs I think. For smaller rivers the William Joseph does a competent job for casts under 70 ft and doubles as a belt that also tethers my net,...

Re: Abel Hemostats

Well actually yes, but then that's why they sell upwards of $300. I see Abel's products intended for those interested in quality for a lifetime of use.

Thumbs up Re: 27.5" bow on 7x on a zebra midge

Excellent work taking that fish! You make the MFF club look proud. I hope you can make a presentation at the next meeting and share your experience. Hope you can make the October trip as well. ...

Re: RMNP fishing

I think I'll join you on the river. I'm visiting from out of town and my usual accommodations are full up on the Eagle River. Deckers would be almost as close but it may be a tad too warm this time...

Re: Colorado, looking for fishing partner!

Hope the wedding went well and that you found some quality time on the water. Best wishes for a lifetime of love, devotion and companionship-and that you can get your wife on the the end of a flyrod.

Thumbs up Re: Best Waders: Simms Vs. Orvis

There's lots of good info here. I myself finally wore out a pair of Dan Bailey Lightweights I got in 2001. I typically wear my waders 10-15 times a years but I fish a lot more than that either out...

Re: Which New Wading Boot?

One reason I stuck with with LL Beans Grey Ghost is the sizing. I wear a size 8 reg. LL Bean recommended I get an 8 wide to accommodate thick wool socks along with the neoprene fishing cold rivers...

Re: Lost and Found fly reel

Thanks guys, but I'm just returning a courtesy. I know what it's like to lose something I treasure. Dave and Newby, you guys are hysterical.
