Re: Wading Boots and Waders (New to Fly Fishing)

Check out Sierra Trading Post. They often have nice waders & boots on sale. Last time I checked, they had Simms Headwater waders and Simms guide boots. My buddy picked up some Redington Sonic Zip...

Organizing materials

This weekend I found a deal (I think). I've been wanting to get into tying for awhile, and browsing the local ads, I found a gentleman that was unloading his gear. It was 2 vises, tools, hooks,...

Re: What have you been tying today?

My first fly ever. My take on the "veiled egg." Headed up to MI early next month, hoping to get into some salmon.

Re: Warm water fishing in winter

I spent quite a few days on the river last winter. It is the river you're referencing. I didn't catch anything besides some ice shelves, logs and trees. I tried pretty much everything I could...

Re: Airlines and fly rods

Nope. Not even a blink. I would make sure you're not carrying a knife. Indy, Miami, Denver and Missoula are the airports that I've been in/out. I called the airline directly before to make sure,...

Re: Airlines and fly rods

I strap my rod tubes to my carry-on backpack with the compression straps. I put my reels, line, flies, nippers, forceps, etc. in my sling which is then stuffed into my carry-on. Never any issues.

Re: Fly Fishing Near Indianapolis

I've only been out twice locally in the past month. I did make it out to MT to visit my brother in-law for a few days fishing, and it was fantastic.

I went to Eagle Creek Reservoir in my boat...

Indiana (resident) with trout stamp. No idea why, I've never trout fished here.

Michigan (all species), they are proud of the non-resident license this year.

Florida.

Montana.

Re: Need help for choosing first saltwatet fly combo

Allen Fly Fishing (site sponsor) has, as their "deal of the week", a store credit ($50, iirc) when you buy an 8 weight rod, which you could put toward an Alpha or Kraken reel.

Or, you could buy...

Re: Double fly rig for finicky clear-water smallmouths

After spending 3 full days throwing hopper/dropper in MT, I'm going to "up the ante" so to speak for smallies. Great idea. I'm also going to try Flygrain's advice for the bucketmouths and water...

Re: Watercraft Advice Needed

No such thing as dumb questions. I just looked at my battery, and it's actually a group 27. I bought it at Wal-Mart for about $100, iirc. Yes, I have the power center. It's pretty slick, I like...

Re: Watercraft Advice Needed

For the record, you do not want to use a cranking (car) battery for your trolling motor. You will want a deep cycle battery. Group 27 is the smallest I would go. You will also want to invest in a...

Man, that looks real similar to the tin I just picked up. Mine's a 1970's, 16'6" Smoker Craft Sport Angler. I'm planning on a refurb this winter after fishing season is over.
