Re: Looking for guides/new friends in NC

The Ararat river is delayed harvest and isn't far from Winston. It runs right through Mt. Airy.

Re: Shortening Korkers

I think the height issue is probably the primary reason STP has them. I can't imagine there are an abundance of waders out there with an 12" clearance from bootie to gravel guard...

Shortening Korkers

I was plagued last season with a pair of boots that were far too big for my feet and decided to jump on a pair of Korkers KGB wading boots from Sierra Trading Post when I had a coupon making them...

Re: Planning my first rod build

I'm also venturing into the wide world of rod building. I decided to get an all in one kit for the epoxy from Hook & Hackle of Flex Coat Lite. It includes all

Re: What have you been tying today?

Twisted up a few soft hackles last night... Nothing amazing, but I look forward to fishing them.

Re: Fiberglass joy

Fox, a DT and WF line are extremely similar for the first 30-40 ft (however long your WF head is). It may be that you're roll casting into the running line of your current WF, which would severely...

Re: Glass VS Graphite

Honestly, I can't tell any difference in the spring tension (and thus drag) by turning the nut into the 3 different positions... They all feel about the same to me, just enough to prevent overrun... ...

Re: Glass VS Graphite

I agree. The new Battenkill is a sweet looking, sweet sounding, sweet performing reel. Unless your rod is ridiculously light, I'd go with the biggest size and get as much backing on it as you need so...

Re: Glass VS Graphite

I'll add Mark Steffen of Steffen Brothers Fly Rods to the mix. Mark rolls his own blanks and sells both blanks and finished rods. I'm building a Steffen 8' 3/4 soon.

Re: Glass VS Graphite

I'm curious what you didn't like about the Classic Trout 3wt? From everyone I've talked to it's regarded as a sweet do-it-all rod.... I've only fished one a handful of times. Just interested to see...

Re: For bass?? Lefty Kreh TiCr X Series

Harry, I've not heard of overlining causing tailing loops... Tailing loops are generally caused by applying too much power to the final portion of the forward cast. If rod flexibility were the...

Re: For bass?? Lefty Kreh TiCr X Series

Since you're wanting to throw larger flies and folks have called this rod "stiff" and "broomstick" maybe overlining with a 9 or even 9.5 might calm it down some and give you the ability to throw...

Re: For bass?? Lefty Kreh TiCr X Series

I've not cast the TiCr, but have the Mangrove & Pro II and have test cast the BVK and done the "wiggle" test on the Clouser, Finesse, & Pro Special series rods... A 9' 8wt is a great all around bass...

Re: Glass VS Graphite

I got the 7' off Amazon about a month and a half ago for $21.31 to my door. It's an all around nice rod to keep in the truck, and the 9" wild bow I caught on thursday put a really great bend in it!

Re: Want a new 4wt - hung up on length

I'm pretty sure Allen will let you return a rod if you're not satisfied with it, as long as you keep the plastic on the handle. So if you're really interested in the Volant, you could cast it, or...

Re: Reel for Redington CT 9' 4wt

Any idea what brand this free line is? I know the CT isn't picky, but with any trout weight fly rod, I'd much rather ensure I had a quality line than a top rate reel.

A hook & hackle line plus a...

Re: Reel for Redington CT 9' 4wt

Depends on how much you're looking to spend... I seriously contemplated putting a Medalist on mine when I got it a few months ago. Those can usually be had on eBay for around $20-40 depending on...

Re: Glass VS Graphite

I'd only add a few thoughts to what's already been stated...

1. If you buy and Eagle Claw, there's no need to drop $75 on a Rio Gold line... Find something cheap, it'll cast it just fine.
