Re: New casting analyzer?

I always wanted to try the Sage Casting Analyzer but never got the chance. I hope this product becomes available!

NRX 6wt Line Choice (sorry for another one of these)?

Yeah STP is such a time suck. It's like a minimum of 1hr every time I click on one of the deal flyers. I only look at it about once a month or I'd go broke scoring those deals.

I just use the Tapatalk app on my phone and on my tablet. It's the only bearable way to access this forum in my opinion.

Re: Galvan Grip

Probably not much out there on this reel yet as it is so new. I'm sure it's fantastic though, as the Galvans I own have been great. Interesting to add a couple ceramic bearings though.

Re: TCR 4wt still good?

$450 is way too much for that rod. I'd be targeting sub $300 for a TCR. You could get a way better rod for that money, including a method. I'd be happy to point you in a few directions for good used...

Re: Question on St Croix Imperial old or new version

Most of the rods I've purchased haven't had plastic on the grip. I can't remember if st Croix does it or not. It's been four years since I last purchased a new st Croix rod. Scratches and scuffs...

Re: Radian or Meridian

I've cast them both and found the meridian to have a stiffer butt and mid section. As long as your intended purpose doesn't include much roll casting I would go with the meridian. I like the added...

Re: Question on St Croix Imperial old or new version

Post a picture of the first section and the tube and I, and I'm sure others, could tell you pretty quickly.

Re: Accel or Mod? Help me choose.

Do you have experience with the Scott G2? To me, the MOD is very very similar to the G2.

I have owned (4) Sage LL's but sold the last of them about 2 years ago. The LL is more similar to the...

Re: Accel or Mod? Help me choose.

I have a a ton of 5 wts and one of them is the 9' Accel. It's a good rod. It's definitely faster than the Mod, which I have also used. Accel is probably a better all around rod, but the mod is a...

Re: How Did You Get Your Wife Into Fly Fishing?

Orvis offers "Women's Retreats" and I signed my wife up for a full day of that. It was like a free beginning fly fishing thing for just women. I think women enjoy a social aspect to anything they do...

Re: Korker & Simms Wading Boots - BOA lace system

I have korkers with the BOA and haven't had issues with them, yet anyway. I also have a pair of the Korkers Redside. They have the shoelace material that you pull tight and cinch down. So it's fast...

Re: Taught or self taught?

Assuming YouTube videos, forum posts, books, etc. count in the "not self-teaching" category, then I'd be like 50%. If those things count as self-teaching than I'd say I'm above 90% self taught.

Re: A question to those who don't tie...

Once my daughter was born I boxed it all up. That was 2.5 years ago. The kitchen table used to be my full time tying station. Not much time anymore plus the fear of dropped hooks being stepped on, or...

Re: Imperial or now-on-sale legend ultra or VXP

I own all three of those rods and love them all. I would say the imperial is faster and lighter than the LU, but the LU has better guides and reel seat.
You'll like the VXP and likely won't return...

Re: Storing the Fly Rod and Line

Not sure how to word this but I'll try.

I break my 4 piece rod into two halves. Before I do this I hook my fly(still attached to leader) on one of the guides on the 2nd section. I break the rod...

32 years old and nearly that many rods. However the most important rod I've ever purchased was a $13 Disney Princess rod for my 2 year old daughter last Saturday. She woke up from her nap Sunday and...

Re: New to Fly Fishing

No beginner should make a rod purchase without considering a Redington CT. (Classic trout). They can be had for under $100 on sale several times a year.

To me though, don't skimp on the line. Get...

Re: Cut Throat Trout Pics

Nice fish! I miss living in Reno. Only lived there for 12 months but certainly took advantage of being close to Pyramid. Hope I make it back some day.

There are a lot of good rods out there in any price range. You'll find a good fit I'm sure.

Re: Sage One "Elite" with extra tip clearance

It would be fine. The response is a decent rod. However if you really want a new 5 wt I'd make you a deal on a Sage Accel for not much more money. I have a bunch of rods and could do with one less...

Re: Sage 2016 ?

I hope they don't release anything this year. It seems that they have put out a lot of rods of late and I'd support them reducing their total number of offerings.

That being said, seems like the...

Re: Wife's first rod

Having gotten my wife into this about 5 years ago (and she's still doing it!) my suggestion is to get a decent rod for her. I had some good rods and a couple cheapo rods (like Redington crosswater)...
