Re: Eagle Claw 7'???

I bought an Eagle Claw about a year ago for my grandson to practice with. It cast surprisingly well until I closed a van door on it. I Think it was a 5-6. I put a 6 on it.

Re: Traverse City area in June

About a year ago, I fished above the old dam. Caught a 9" brown. it was pretty cool to wade where there would have been 10 feet of water a few years ago.

Be sure your line straightens on the back cast and make a good stop on your forecast before laying the line down

Stretch it. Either tie to something solid and gently stretch it or do 3-4 ft. at a time between your hands

Re: Anyone ever roofed your own house?

I quit doing my own roofing about 15 years ago. That is work that my body is not used to and it takes a long time to heal. I quit trying to trim horses hooves about the same time, for the same...

Re: the nail less nail knot

I was experimenting with this a while ago. It seemed like it stripped the coating off the line more easily than a regular nail knot. Could be the cheap line I was practicing on. Anyone else...

Re: Opening Day?

Drove 4 hours north on Michigan's opener. Got there pretty late, but fished enough to make it official. Sunday a.m. was a decent day for a steady drizzle.

Caught a few baby browns and a 10"...

Lost... and FOUND

All winter, I went crazy looking for my pair of fingerless fleece gloves. I knew I had them on my last trip in October, but gave them up for lost.

Saturday, when I pulled my waders on for the...

Re: How young is too young?

My grandson, whom I was bragging on in another thread, was waving a fly rod around at 3. We took him fishing, with his Snoopy rod, at local ponds where he could catch blue gills. He graduated to a...

Re: #5 line with "WF9F" reel?

You can tie the leader end of the fly line on your reel, temporarily. Wind it on. Tie backing to the fly line.( I...

Re: Start 'em Young II

He has been "tying" flies for a few years, some are pretty creative. All of his school projects and stories are fishing related. At his kindergarten graduation he said he wanted to be a fishing...

Start 'em Young II

Didn't want to hijack the other thread! Yesterday, my 7 yo grandson, cast, set the hook and landed a fish on a fly rod, completely by himself! First time he put it all together. Blue gill in the...

Re: Lessons learned the hard way

I think I have this right. Look at the diameter of the material in thousands of an inch. Subtract the thousandth number from 11. i.e. 11-6( thousandth)= 5X. 11-7 =4X. Make sense? If not,...

Re: Your Fly rod brand of choice

Financially, I have to stick with lower end rods. I have a small collection of rods that work well for me. I guess 3 of them are TFOs. Not intentionally brand loyal, those seem to find me.

Re: Uses for a 4 wt in the Midwest

I too, began with a 6 wt. Pretty quick, I got a 81/2 ft 4 wt. This has become my go to trout rod. Dry flies, wets, small streamers, what ever the situation demands.

That being said, for smaller...
