The split rings im talking about are tiny split rings off some realy small crank baits. I tested for poundage on them and they broke at 21 pounds. They are as small as the tippet rings also.

If it was me i would purchase a 4 and 6 weight. Most of the time i fish small skinny streams here in NY that aren't more than 12 foot wide but some times i go on bigger rivers that are 30 to 100 foot...

I have a CT 9' 5wt. Its a great rod for the price. I don't buy a rod under 9 foot because i euro nymph a lot so the longer rods are better. I would stick to the 9' foot. It will do every situation...
