Re: My $50 redington 4 wt outfit

Though I don't need another 4 wt fly combo, I certainly wouldn't have been able to walk away from that deal. Good job!

Re: Newbie here. Just bought my rod. Need some suggestions for the rest.

Considering the reel is mainly a line holder for lower weight fly line setups, the Cabela's Prestige Premier fly reel would also be an option. It's slightly heavier than the Redington Drift reel...

Re: Source you use for tying?

As previous members already mentioned, there are many good on-line shops for fly tying materials.

Some that I've used more frequently than others:

Re: Practice casting on the snow. Is it a bad thing?

Practicing with a cold water line on snow shouldn't cause any problems. However, if you are practicing for a trip to the Caribbean or other warm destination, don't practice with a tropics grade line...

Re: Entry level vise and tools

If at all possible, try a vise before buying it. There a lot of options and what works for someone else may not be the best fit for you.

I took a free fly tying class at Cabelas and therefore had...

Re: Boats and other things that float

Though motorized boats are great, I love kayaks and canoes. My new ride is a Native Slayer kayak, which is great for fly fishing. I'm enjoying it immensely....

Re: Stupid saltwater hook size question

You aren't losing your mind. There is very little consistency and uniformity with regards to fly hook size numbering. To confirm this, download the Gamakatsu product catalog from their website...

Re: New to Fly Fishing, Limited Sale, Which rod would you choose?

Don't know anything about those rods, but can tell you it's much easier to travel with a four piece rod.

Re: Snow Practice

Definitely use a coldwater line to practice. A buddy of mine practiced with his tropical line in Illinois in the Winter prior to a trip to the Keys. Ended up cracking his line in multiple places.

Re: Which brand hooks to buy or not buy?

If trying to reduce costs and you are close to a Cabelas, try Mustad or Eagle Claw hooks. With Mustad, you typically get 50 hooks for same prices as Tiemco sells 25 hooks. With Eagle Claw you get...

Re: Reel and Rod Combo Advice

Assuming you aren't already aware of it, the line and rod weight should match. Line weight determines how big a fly you can toss - higher weight facilitates larger flies. Faster rod action and...
