I havnt made the move to actual tubes yet, but i really like the patterns. I cut the point off a mustad 3366 then add a short length of braid or backing for a stinger hook. I know its alot more work...

Lurk. Thank you. Ive thought along the same lines many times. It makes me realize how much i miss my own grandpa. But it also makes me hope that my "hands" will find their way to my own grand kids...

Id feel the same way. Im from the east and my only opportunity are hatchery fish from the great lakes. That being said, i let 99.9 percent go. I keep one here and there because my kids like to eat...

Fluoro is great, but only as strong as your knot. Theres a u tube video, something like best fluorocarbon knot ever. I switched after some break offs using an imp clinch knot.

I have an okuma, i picked it up because of its drag. In simple terms, i dont like it at all. The line capacity is crappy and when i strip line off the reel, i get overrun that leads to a snarled...

Gator, pretty much. Early in the fall you can be up off the bottom, but the colder it gets, the more you want your drift closer and closer to bottom.

Ran into the exact same issue with mfc. Broke quite a few on small snags and such. I use alot of streamer hooks, so mine were all larger.

This is just my opinion, but i think hares ear, pheasant tail, and prince patterns will cover all your nymph needs. Just vary the colors. Dries can be elk hair caddis and any wullf pattern....
