Re: Cabela's Stowaway 5 piece

I have the Cabela's 5 piece 8'6" 5wt. Great rod, can't speak to the 8wt though. If you're going for it might as well jump on it now because all the other sizes are sold out. The rod itself is on sale...

Re: what do you think of this craigslist ad

Re: Sticky rubber vs. felt and studded felt

I checked out Korkers at the Somerset show and I found them to be really heavy. The more expensive models were a bit lighter but overall I was not impressed with how much the Korkers weigh. Since I...

Hasn't happened yet but I'm super excited about it. We'll be there from April 8th-12th. I'll post a full report upon our return.

Re: Sticky rubber vs. felt and studded felt

I have the Patagonia Riverwalkers with the sitcky rubber soles. So far I've only had the opportunity to use them once but it was on a stream known for slick rocks so it was a good place to gauge the...

Re: hello from LI NY

I forgot to welcome the new guy! Sorry bud, I was focused on answering Ard's questions about the Carmans. I grew up on LI but now reside a little to the west in Brooklyn. Looking forward to exploring...

Re: What are everyones favorite podcasts?

I really enjoy the Tom Rosenbauer podcasts on the Orvis site. Also, another place where I've found good ones is at askaboutflyfishing.com.

Re: Smokly Mountains

Looks like we'll be camping at the backcountry campsite #24 for a few days and exploring the waters of Little River, Fish Camp Prong and perhaps others. I'll be sure to post a report when we get back.

Re: hello from LI NY

Hey Ard - I dunno if this answers your questions but the carmans is mostly public parkland organized on the beat system where you pay to fish a section of the river - it's a nominal fee though I...

Re: Patagonia Riverwalkers Felt - Be Careful!

The reason I think this is noteworthy is the fact that they acknowledged that their product is defective in their communication and then proceeded to offer the same product in exchange - admittedly...

Re: new

If you're new to this just stick with what you've got and learn on it. A 5wt is a good all purpose rod (unless you're talking about saltwater). Since you already have a rod you might want to spend...

Re: Help me pick a line...

You might want to look at Wulff Triangle Taper - a lot of guys I know swear by it for delicate dry fly presentations. It also roll casts very nicely.

Re: ohio trout?

I'm also interested in the Mad River. I live in New York now but I am moving back in with my mom (:icon_redf) to study for the Bar exam. I imagine that I'll be taking a day off here and there to get...

Well they sure generated a lot of press about themselves with that one...that's about the best I can say for it.

Smokly Mountains

Anybody here fish the Smokies? I am planning a backcountry camping/fishing trip with some friends and was looking for suggestions. I'm looking into Deep Creek and Little River since we need a place...

Re: Action needed in CT

It's interesting to note that all around the Northeast, fish populations are on the decline with one notable exception - the Striper. This is mostly due to the fact that while other fish (e.g. Shad)...

Re: Looking for #2 or #3 rod

I have a 7'9" TFO Finesse 3wt that I love and would heartily recommend. My advice though is to pick 3-4 rods and go to some local shops to start casting them. You never know which rod will be better...

Re: New Wading Boots

Vibram is the name of the manufacturer of the sole, not a type of rubber. They've been working on developing a wading-specific rubber compound for use in wading boots/shoes. It's nothing like their...

Re: Patagonia Riverwalkers Felt - Be Careful!

That sounds like a serious lawsuit if someone gets hurt/drowns because of this problem that they admit to knowing about. I would expect more from Patagonia, they're usually a responsible company that...

Re: What Rain Gear/Wading Jacket do you use?

Worked fine for me too, I can reach all the way into the water with none getting inside the sleeves - as long as I remember to cinch the cuff before I reach down.

Re: camping

If you're buying a pack it's best to get it from a local store where you can get it properly fitted and adjusted to your body. Load distribution is the key to hikiing with a pack. Properly adjusted,...

Re: Need some opinions.....TFO vs. St. Croix

Test the rods before you make a decision. Casting is such a subjective thing, what might be a great rod to one person is a worthless club to someone else. I have a TFO Finesse that I tested against a...

Re: 555 Line w/ Dyna Tip

I just finished spooling some 555 Dyna tip WF-5-F tonight. Looks like great line, I'll be trying it out on Sunday so I can give you a report. When I opened the spool there was a 6 inch piece of nylon...
